Default Easter 'Season' looking for help.

I'm looking for some input here. What, if anything do you guys play in the weeks leading up to Palm Sunday and Easter? I don't want to create too somber of a mood, but I'd like to create noticeable contrast, musically that becomes readily apparent on Easter Sunday. Does that make any sense?

Any input appreciated, thanks.

*We will be doing some extra hymns but I still plan to try and keep things more on the contemporary side.

I like songs like "Here I am to Worship" which draw out stuff like "I'll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross" etc.

I also liked songs that drew out the idea of how we are all lost in sin and need a savior, etc.

Just some "quickie" ideas off the top of my head...

I See The King of Glory (Hosanna) is great all year round, but maybe a good one for Palm Sunday.

The only great contrast we've done in the past is this:

Somber stuff (Old Rugged Cross, At the Cross, etc.) all acoustic for Good Friday evening service. Then joyful, glorious rejoicing for Easter Sunday.

LOL, some years ago, I was the "Elder of Music" at the church we were at. At the first service on Easter morning one year, the congregation walked in to very somber pre-service music. The service started with the Pastor declaring, "He is risen!" The congregation responded with, "He is risen indeed!" Then we broke out with the happy Easter music. I caught so much flack for that. People didn't understand the symbolism. Christ was still dead and burried from Friday until someone declared His rising.

Never did that again. I thought it cool, but I was in a distinct minority.

I'm hoping not to give tham 'Worship Whiplash' on Easter Sunday, but it should be a time of rejoicing and the music will reflect that.

I believe that the "blood" songs are appropriate leading up to Resurrection Sunday, but that day should be CELEBRATION!!!!!!!!!!

I like that!

We probably do Thief (Third Day) at some point, leading up to Easter. this is generally the only time of year I really feel moved to do that song.

An old song the team likes is Rise Again. Can't remember the guys name who did it though.
