I'm looking for some input here. What, if anything do you guys play in the weeks leading up to Palm Sunday and Easter? I don't want to create too somber of a mood, but I'd like to create noticeable contrast, musically that becomes readily apparent on Easter Sunday. Does that make any sense?
Any input appreciated, thanks. *We will be doing some extra hymns but I still plan to try and keep things more on the contemporary side. |

I like songs like "Here I am to Worship" which draw out stuff like "I'll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross" etc.
I also liked songs that drew out the idea of how we are all lost in sin and need a savior, etc. Just some "quickie" ideas off the top of my head...

I See The King of Glory (Hosanna) is great all year round, but maybe a good one for Palm Sunday.

The only great contrast we've done in the past is this:
Somber stuff (Old Rugged Cross, At the Cross, etc.) all acoustic for Good Friday evening service. Then joyful, glorious rejoicing for Easter Sunday.

LOL, some years ago, I was the "Elder of Music" at the church we were at. At the first service on Easter morning one year, the congregation walked in to very somber pre-service music. The service started with the Pastor declaring, "He is risen!" The congregation responded with, "He is risen indeed!" Then we broke out with the happy Easter music. I caught so much flack for that. People didn't understand the symbolism. Christ was still dead and burried from Friday until someone declared His rising.
Never did that again. I thought it cool, but I was in a distinct minority. |

I'm hoping not to give tham 'Worship Whiplash' on Easter Sunday, but it should be a time of rejoicing and the music will reflect that.

I believe that the "blood" songs are appropriate leading up to Resurrection Sunday, but that day should be CELEBRATION!!!!!!!!!!

We probably do Thief (Third Day) at some point, leading up to Easter. this is generally the only time of year I really feel moved to do that song. An old song the team likes is Rise Again. Can't remember the guys name who did it though. |
