so, I gotta text on friday night while I was at work. Asking if I would cover for a guy sunday morning on bass, even tho I knew I'd be working sat night as well and have little time to practice I said yes. Cause I'm going through a little stage right now where I am really enjoying playing bass.

So I looked over our song list... guess what song number two was?
salvation is here - hillsong united...
I had about an hour sat afternoon to go over it a few times, and this morning with only 2 hours of sleep I made it through it on stage... I couldn't keep the 16th notes going through the whole thing... but I had all the notes right, and with hammer on's it sounded pretty close.

I thought I'd feel more intimidated... maybe it was the lack of sleep but I felt very relaxed while doing it, unlike guitar solo's, which while fun, I always get a little anxious over. That's also part of the fun, the rush and excitement.

this was so different it was worth mentioning...
anyone else ever feel like this?

I decided about a month back I wanted to do some kind of woodworking project to see if I was interested in maybe finishing a guitar myself, and try and figure out how frustrating a process that could potentially be. I did some looking around and thought I'd try a Gorm pedalboard, since the worst that happened if I made a mess of it was that I was out a $4 shelf and some stain, not the end of the world.

So I turned this:

Into this:

The total cost of the project was about $30 dollars for the shelf, the cut down brackets for the feet, the industrial velcro and the stain. I sanded down the shelf to 220, applied two coats of Dark Walnut danish oil then wet sanded with 400 and more danish oil to even out the coat. I think it turned out pretty well all things considered.

Now I'm one that shy's away from symbols, crosses, etc. I dont even care for the Nativity Scene at Christmas time.

But this might be a powerful message to the anti-christian, atheist movement going on in this country.

I dont know about you, but I'm building a simple, plain, 3 foot tall cross, and its going in my front yard. And if anyone asks why, I'll be more than glad to explain that while my President says we are not a Christian nation, I respectfully disagree, and hope that other Christians join me in placing a simple plain cross on there front yard to remind him that we are "One Nation under God".

I'm thinking of getting a bass. I play guitar, and have played some bass (my brother is primarily a bass player - has his own tuning style and everything:clap:). It seems like there are a lot more guitar players around than bass players, so we're often lacking a bass player ( so I'm thinking I should keep up my skills)

Anyways, I'm looking for "bass on a budget" - a good budget bass and smaller combo amp - nothing fancy, but it has to get the job done. I've been told Squire (P-bass?) and Ibanez (SR series) are good cheap basses. Any opinions on those or others?

I'm thinking 4-string ... probably :dunno: I've played a friends' five string, but I find some of the stretches a little much (I have small hands). But I'm trying to figure that out too (5 vs 4 stringer).

Any advice?
