I have Grover 18-1 tuners. Not bad, but I'm thinking about getting either Kluson's, or Gotoh "Kluson knock-offs". Gotta wait till I get my new neck though.

I've never had trouble with machine heads holding pitch if I remember to always come UP to the pitch from below.

I have experienced body shifting on some guitars that drove me crazy.

Others were extremely temperature sensitive, especially some archtops I've had.

Ahhh, the tuning demons... I've owned my Zion for 5 years now and broke my 1st string on it a week ago... a 1st E. Changed the rest of the set tonight. I really like the Sperzels. They make for a quick string up and hold pitch well after stretching the strings. And the Mann whammy didn't go out of tune when the string broke. Wish it stayed in tune after yanking on the whammy as well as the Wilkinson I put my son's Stratocaster though.

I always try to come UP to pitch too. The Telecaster has trouble until the strings are very well stretched, and recently I was constantly tuning when it was hot at an outdoor service. My L5 is pretty bad for temparature drift. I always try to literally warm up before a show to help stabilize it.

I haven't had any complaints about tuners either, although in my younger days they were the first to get the blame.I just didn't know how to tune properly.I come up to the pitch, give a slight tug,and then tune the string again.Making sure the nut slots have plenty of grace room is paramount to good tuning.
It's hard to beat a set of old slot top type Klusons,if they are tight.

I have Sperzels and am happy with them.

I like Sperzels. Next choice is the Gotoh Schaller look-alikes, as they are fine tuners at an economical cost.

I prefer Schallers, but who can afford gold ones?
Sheesh they are pricey!

I've got some older axes with Schallers and Grover, and they're fine. I have some stock Carvin tuners on a few axes and they are fine, too. I have three sets of Sperzels that work great, and are really quick for string changes. My favorite feeling set is some 18:1 Grovers I put on an Epiphone Sheraton, those things are so smooth! I don't have any complaints on any of my tuner installations.

I've never been a big Kluson fan, but they seem to work for a lot of players.
