Another soon to be new, used guitar day. As much as I dig the Recording King, it's just to big (even with the 000 body) to keep on a stand in our new tiny (and I mean TINY!) place.

So, I put the feelers out for a parlor size guitar. Was hoping to land an A&L Ami or something similar, but just kept missing on the ones that came up.

A nice little La Patrie 'Motif' (a parlor size classical from the Godin family) came up and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Although it's been a while, I've played several of these and found them to be quite excellent. A lot of volume and rich tone eminate from these little beauts and the tops vibrate with an aliveness that belies it's small stature.

I really wanted a steel string, but the more I thought about it, the more excited I got about having a sweet nylon string to grab and play when the muse strikes. I'ts been three weeks now since I last had a guitar on a stand nearby and I miss it dearly!

Like most acoustics in the Godin, La Si Do family, it's a plain Jane, but the quality and woods are exceptional. A lot of tone and playability for very little dollars.

I'll post a review (and pics) after I spend some quality time with it. Sadly, the Recording King will be finding a new home........

I picked up the La Patrie Motif today. Although time has only permitted 10 minutes with it so far, I must say what a fine little instrument it is! Parlor body size, solid cedar top, lam mahogany back, sides, mahogany neck.....tusq nut and saddle.

Here's what the La Patrie website says about it: The Motif takes its compact dimensions from turn-of-the-century parlor guitars. The compact body of the Motif suggests a ¾ size instrument but this is a full-scale guitar. There is more to the compact body style of the Motif than comfort, this is a serious guitar with many of the same features that professional guitarists look for in the best handcrafted instruments. The solid cedar top and Custom Polished finish ensure that this guitar will not only sound great when you first receive it but will actually become better sounding with playing over time.

Anywho...really looking forward to sitting down and spending some quality time with this little beaut!

Sounds like a cool instrument.

Wow, it must be a small place if the difference between a parlor and a 000 makes a difference in your space utilization....:yikes:

Oh Scootz.....if I could only show you how small this place is. Not that I'm complaining.....the provision of the Lord has been quite amazing through the past five years of no work. To even have a roof over our head is such a HUGE blessing, I am in total awe of our LORD.

Anyway, it is quite acool instrument. And guess what? It's right next to me on a stand! I love the little thang! Not only is it quite a good looker in an understated way, the sound that comes out of it's teeny little body is quite amazing. Once my battery charges, I'll snap some pics, but you can go to the La Patrie site and click on Motif and see what it looks like.

I'm a big fella, 6' 5" and around (ahem..) 300 lbs. So it looks quite funny to be playing a parlor when I should have a jumbo, but there is something about little geetars (parlors in particular) that capture my fancy. and this little jewel has certainly done that. If you;re looking for a low cost nylon string guitar, I would highly recommend trying once of these.

WOW! Am I enjoying this guitar. The playability is outstanding and the tone is beautiful......very rich and complex for such a little guitar.

I even tried in DADGAD, open D and double dropped D.... and it works very well. Even dug out a few slides...slide on a nylon string??? Don't knock it till ya try it! Pretty cool.

This little jewel is a keeper!
