A passage of Scripture that confuses me

i am studying the concept of "rest" in the New Testament, particularly in Hebrews chapters 3 and 4. Hebrews 4:8-11 makes sense to me. Hebrews 4:12-13 makes sense to me. what i don't understand is their proximity! what does 12-13 have to do with what is discussed in 8-11?

in the NIV, these are shown as two seperate successive paragraphs. i do not see how what is expressed in 12-13 relates to what is explained before.

in my opinion it's because of the quotation of OT verses quoted before those verses that you mentioned. The quotations come from Psalm 95:7-11 and are split up a little bit, you can go back and read it to see how it fits. I think the verses in 12-13 are written to give authority to what was written in verses 1-11.
