Just a quick poll - I'm trying to get input on what folks see as a "great" string for their Seagull spruce top guitars. From the factory it comes with 12's - I've tried D'Addario, John Pearse and Martin. I have stuck with D'Addario but am thinking maybe there is another brand that may be better....Has anyone tried DR strings (I love their Pure Blues for my electrics)? The floor is now open for any and all comments - good, bad, indifferent....

My old, ugly gull I posted about a while back is spruce topped. I've been out of work for 4 years now, so my foray's with string expermentation has been relegated to whatever I can get on closeout or cheap, cheap, cheap!

Out of the usual suspects, (Martin, D'Addario, Markley,et al) the D'Add's work well. That said, I've had great luck with Ernie Ball Earthwoods. They seem to bring out the best of what this guitar has to offer. The Earthwoods don't last very long, but the tone is just great. I generally prefer phos brnz on my acoustics, but the good ol brass do the trick quite well on this guitar.

Next best are the EB Phos Bronze. I found several sets of Darco's for $1.50 a set that are also surprisingly good. ymmv of course. Good luck on your search.

My wife uses Elixirs on her Norman (same parent company as Seagull) spruce top, and they have a nice, punchy sound to them. Being coated they're more expensive but they last forever and do sound really nice.
