I've added a Keeley Blues Driver to my setup, right before the Line6 X3 Live. It's very nice and really all that people say about it. It yields a good controllable crunch, and cleans up nicely if you pick lighter or roll the volume back on your guitar. In effect, this setup kinda adds a second channel to each of my patches on the Line6.

Result: The Keeley Blues Driver is a keeper.

Thanks for the report.

I'd be cautious about the gain settings using it in front of the X3L. Using it AFTER would be no problem.

As long as the pedal does not boost your signal going into the POD, it should be okay.

I got that idea from Lincoln Brewster. When he came to play at our church, I was checking out his gear (of course), and noticed that he was using a Blues Driver in front of his floorboard. And it works well, but I don't dial in a lot of gain on it, just a slight boost.

The way I have it set up now, I can't really use a stompbox after the Line6. I take a direct out that is split to a JBL powered floor monitor, and to the house.

This is a quote from his website:

"Are you also using the onboard effects on the POD X3 or do you go with pedals?
I do use some pedals in front of it – a lot of people don’t know that it responds like an amp when you put pedals in front of it. So I don’t use the POD as an effects box; I use it as a mic’ed up amp simulation. There are times during the night when I’m not using anything on it. I’ll usually put a hair of a delay on it, but that’s all. I really like the BOSS OD3 and the BOSS Blues Driver. The OD3 works great for pre-amping dirty sounds or clean sounds."

I have played through one of those an like it too, though I don't have one. I do have a Keely DS-1, and like it for specific songs (though it no longer has a permanent place on my pedal board). He does good work. And it is cool when you get something that works well.

Have thought about buying one of his BD-2 mods, but getting a BD-2 second hand and doing the mod myself would be cheaper, but would take much longer...LOL.

I occasionally use a DynaComp in front of mine, but I am cautious about the gain.

I used to use a WD7 wah in front of it all the time, and a volume pedal after. I really don't like the volume pedal on the unit.

I've been Jonesin' for Keeley's new Flanger, it looks delicious.

I also have one of his 4-knob compressors, but I somehow like my Boss compressor better, what's up with that? Perhaps I just haven't learned to dial in the Keeley yet.

I think if you're used to more squash from the Boss, the Keeley can sound like it's doing nothing at all by comparison. I had a BBE Opto-stomp for awhile and it just didn't sound like it was doing much of anything...until I turned it off lol

Yeah, that's it! It's more subtle, and when I turn it up to higher levels then it produces too much hiss, and I hate hiss. I gotta try it again, and see if I can get into subtle.

I've got a monte allums modded BD2 which I really like... No more MFX for me, but had I tried to mix in some actual pedals, perhaps I would have kept mine longer??? Of course, now that I've fully extracted myself from the modeling world, I may not ever go back... Kinda like the matrix??? I took the "glowing red glass" pill???????
