Been listening to Todd Agnew's "Grace Like Rain" album again. There's an awful lot of good stuff there! Also spending some time with Rich Mullins and Phil Keaggy... and whatever the folks at Power FM want to play for me! http://www.897powerfm.com/

I think the kids are getting me new cd's for Father's Day, so I should have some new tunes soon!

I just got Kate Miner's new release, "Prodigal Martha." Oh my, I haven't been able to get past the first few tracks yet! I'm so captivated by the songs, I can't move on.

It's not just the songs, there's something else. This woman sings with complete abandon and passion. As I sit here weeping over some of the lyrics and the way it's arranged and sung, I'm thinking, "Wow, remember when YOU sang like that?"

Why did I stop? When did I learn to be so careful?

I'm sorry... I've just been lying in bed a lot lately (my injured rib turned into pneumonia) and I'm realizing how dissatisfied I've become with "pleasing the majority" at church. So I've decided that when I return, I'm going to get myself fired. :-)

What I mean is, singing with abandon again. As in—what are they going to do... fire me?

Kitty, you sing like David danced! Give it your all, and if they point and ridicule, well, their gonna have to answer to our Big Brother, who I know is enjoying your singing with abandon!

Side note: Its highly unlikely, but if I ever did get a Christian band going, I would name it "Dance Like David". I think it gets the point across (at least to me it does).

Kitty-

Sis, I have 'bouts with pneumonia every so often..and I can tell you first-hand:
1. it isn't any fun
2. Pneumonia is more serious than you might think
3. stay in bed and rest
4. Pneumonia is more serious than you might think
5. Your brain will tell you you "feel better" far before your body is ready to agree with your brain.
6. Pneumonia is more serous than you might think

Put it this way: Jim Henson (Muppets) died from pneumonia. He simply wouldn't sit still and give his body time to heal. ("I have too much on my calendar to do" was his excuse for not cancelling/postponing his workload.)
It cost him his life.

It almost cost me mine: both the first time I had it in '91, & this last bout this spring; & people die every year (in the USA!) from this crud. I've had it about 5 or 6 times since '91, (I've honestly lost count) in varying degrees.

FWIW, I am one that can't sit still for long...(except for being in front of this idiot box called a PC, and even then what I do is tedious on the eyes and mind) ie: I've always gott be doing something; and believe me, I know how hard it can be to sit still. But you MUST!!

Lostsa fluids, chicken broth, not much dairy, etc. and REST. I'm a singer too, so I know how frustrating it can be from a number of angles, Kiity. But REST!!!

You can relapse. And if you don't rest long enough, you will.

Oh, one more thing: if you haven't already done so, get an pneumonia innoculation. Yes'm, you can do that while you have pneumonia. Usually, I'm VERY anti-vacccine for a number of things, but in this case the exception is well-warrranted, and prudent, IMHO. ( I got one during this last round...)

One more thing to keep in mind: in general, once you've had pneumonia, it's easy to be a candidate for it again...for the rest of your life. Much easier to get it, than if you've never had it before.

Forgive me if you already know all this- just trying to help my sis. And I'm not at all trying to put you in fear- God has NOT given us that spirit; but I'm attempting to help you grasp how dangerous your situation can be if you are unaware.

God Bless and keep you; and get well. God has much to do through you.

I hope you feel better soon Kitty. Please sing with abandon and i hope i can hear your music sometime. I've been listening to Kelly Clarkson this week. Great pop production. Someone mentioned about listening to Wings. I believe i saw a brand new DVD of their songs. I don't really know them but wondered why i never checked them out since i am a big Beatles fan. I'm listening to Worship Generation right now. they are the Praise and Worship Team out of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Scott Cunningham has some great stuff on there, and "I will walk by Faith" by (and performed by) Jeremy Camp (before he hit big time).

!he recording quality on most of the songs (especially the live recordings) is really grim, but the songs or sooo full of Praise, you cant help but get caught up in it. My favorite is "Your Love Surrounds Me" . A simple acoustic number. Brings tears to my eye's every time.

I love it! The guitars are nice and heavy, and the drums sound awesome. They have a very natural room sound. Of course, Michael Sweet doesn't quite have the scream he used to (he's in his 40's now) but the songs are there and so is the playing. I wasn't disappointed in the least. I'd recommend it. I don't really count either of them as blues players - Cray has said more than once that he doesn't really put himself in that denomination - although they both CAN play blues. Today I was listening to Coco Montoya's Can't Look Back; check it out for something blue, tasty and rocking.

I'm also listening to a little Jeremy Camp, and trying to come up with an inspiring version of Beautiful One for my 4-piece band.

Anybody ever check it Seven Places (Spaces?); a friend has recommended them and for the life of me I can't figure out why!!!

Since Ravindave mentioned Seven Places, I put on "Lonely for the Last Time" - I'm attracted to the lyrics in the title cut - there are some other cuts that are decent listening. Not a phenomenal group, but not bad.

I've also been listening to "Monk Rock" by John Michael Talbot. Pretty eclectic - probably one of the few places you can hear a traditional latin prayer with a straight ahead rock beat, tasty strat licks and a little banjo in the back of the mix!

Hey Mikey, you might try a place called CGR, they have a TAB directory, but I have found an awful lot of them are somewhat innacurate, to "What song is this?!"

I know this might not be the answer your looking for, but if you can get a song book from the artist (pretty sure you can find it, or order it through most Christain book stores that sell CD's), the odds are pretty good that the TAB will be accurrate.

Good Luck!

Funny you should say that, I just landed an interview with Richie Furay for another forum. I have known him for years, my wife and I grew up with his kids, and I even dated one of his daughters, right before I got smart and married one of her friends! I think that our meeting will probably be tomorrow, not quite sure yet. We usually only see each other at Pastors conferences, youth group outings, men’s retreats, things of that nature. It will be nice to meet on a social call for once! We need to look up a date on his Gibson ES-355, and his twin Reverb to kind of add to the history of the interview.

John Williams' The Magic Box, probably the best example of African guitar styles as played by non-Africans. Very cool, jazzy, tropical sounds, easy to listen to without at all being "easy listening".
