I'm thinking of turning one of my Teles into an Esquire---it would be Fender's version of the Les Paul Jr. (bridge pickup only).

From what I understand, the 3 way switch works as follows---position 3,pickup with no tone control...position 2 (middle),pickup with tone control...position 1,pickup with preset capacitance to "fake" a front pickup.
I have played a few, including an old one('62),and it was interesting.

Anyone using one like this? Pros, cons?

I'm using a recent Gibson Melody Maker, that looks like a LP Jr. (one bridge P-90). Except with a small headstock and a thinner body. I use it for Worship every Sunday.
Because the pots are so well chosen, the tone and volume controls make this a really versatile guitar!

I'm sold on one pickup guitars now. So simple, even I can understand them!

Through a processor it's even more versatile, but so far I've only goofed around at home with those sounds. Great "acoustic" setting might find its way onto the platform though.

An Esquire with a switch can only be more versatile. I'm for it!

I agree---a P-90 with the right pots and cap can go a long way.I've always been a big P-90 fan.
I learned the versatility of a single pup guitar when the front pickup of my Les Paul Special went out back in '75....for 4 nights I had to play it as a Jr,and was amazed at how rolling the tone and volume could suffice!
I'll be doing the Esquire as soon as I get a guard---I'll keep everyone posted.

No doubt!!! That joker is what we all call "broken in."

Just scored a black Esquire guard for $9.00 on ebay----I've got two tele bridge pickups coming in, a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage (stacked coil) and a bridge pup from a Classic '60s reissue (Fender MIM).
I think that the flame body I posted before will get the honors.

What a warhorse Jame Burton's ol' Esquire is.

James sounds like he's using an Esquire, even when using a Tele!

Well,I recieved my Esquire guard today----I also got in my DiMarzio Virtual Vintage pup.
I'm thinking maybe doing my white MIM tele as an Esquire instead of the flame job.....the pickguard is black.Who knows which one I'll do :dunno .
I am looking for a real fat tele neck if anyone has one for sale---semi fat would do!
I've been playing my tele on the bridge pup alot lately with the tone rolled back, and I'm amazed at the nice sounds---I've basically been a tone on 10 kinda guy, except with a Jr.
Again,I'll keep y'all posted, and put up pics and an MP3 when she's finished!

Well,it's together and tested.....the DiMarzio Virtual Vintage is highly recommended so far. I took some pics that I'll post, but basically it's a white MIM tele with a black guard. The pup is very responsive and works well with the tone pot.
Here's a quick sound file jam....look for "Refin Lost In Space".Excuse the clambake :angel !
