I have a pair of both and needed to drop a 16 OHM 12 back in the Prosonic.
I pulled the 8 OHM Celestian Marshall labled Heritage that I have had in the amp and tried both.
Celestian Vin 30. This was one of the newer Chinese built Vin 30's and has some high volume hours on it. Tone was HARSH in both the high end and mids + really boxie sounding in the amp.
WGS Vet 30. This one was pretty much a new speaker and not well broken in. Still the WGS was MUCH warmer rounder and less abrasive. The highs were smoother and rounder the HONK in the midrange was now gone, the lows tighter and most of the boxie sound was gone.
Night and day difference between the 2. I was frankly shocked at how much better the WGS Vet sounded than the Vin 30 in this amp.
NO CONTEST WGS !!

Yep. I was really shocked at the difference back to back in the Prosonic though. The unbroken in WGS just stomped on the broken in Vin 30 big time!!

Those WGS units sound interesting.
I have never cared for Vintage 30's. Yuck. FOH engineers seem to love them. I had them in 2 different cabs ( one Soldano 4x12 cab, one straight 1960 Marshall cab); and they just didn't work for me. They may mic-up well, but the freq response of those drives me nuts.

Try the Veteran 30's, you'll love it!

Hmmm.... I'm wondering if one of these would sound cool in my Cube 60...
Thanks for the review. I might replace the speaker in my Crate Palomino V16. Anyone tried the Eminence Cannibis Rex???

I know that in the V32, it really likes the Eminence "Tonker". Them only speaker out there that I know that resists break-up any more, is the EV12 (and that would add another 200+ bucks!).
Micter threw the Tonker in his V32, and hasnt looked back (and that was years ago).
Now, a Celestion Vintage 30 (and the WGS Veteran 30), break up early, so it wouldnt behacve the same way as the Tonker. Micter is convinced the the V32 is best with a speaker that resists early break up.
Tonker aye? That's what I'm looking for: a clean speaker. The C-Rex is supposed to be one of thier cleanest speakers, with a kind of darkish tone. I'll look also at the Tonker. Hmmmm, maybe I'll build a 2x12 with one of each....

The Tonker supposedly does not color the tone of the amp: You get a truer "All-amp" sound from this speaker.

Hmmmm... a "tonker" for guys who like to "tinker" with their cabs... would that make somebody a "tinker-tonker"?
