Just so I don't get my gizzard cut out let me say that I don't claim to be any kind of a Tele expert. For the music I do the more modern features seem to work better. That being said here are a few impressions of some Teles at the Boise Idaho Guitar Center.
I really wanted to try a 52RI since it seems to be the gold standard for Teles. The butterscotch one they had on the wall was very nice!
If someone wants a light one this is it. I'll bet it was well under 7 lbs.
Played it through a Twin. It has the original circuit so I did'nt get a true impression of the neck pup for my style of playing.
Coming from my Amstd the neck and frets would take some getting used to. If all my guitars were vintage specs I'm sure it would be fine.
I think I would have a hard time going back and forth though. YMMV.
Nice guitar. I can see why they are a fave.
American Deluxe Tele. I didn't get to plug this one and the others I played into an amp. General impressions---really nice neck, more what I am used to. Actually a little more vintage feeling than the Am Dlx I used to have but it may have been the maple vs RW on mine.
Amse Tele. Really nice feeling guitar---I'd say the fretwork and neck were the equal of the Amdlx.
Mim std.---nice guitar for the money but heavier and clearly not the same quality. Fret sprout on all to varying degrees
I also played a v-neck Amdlx strat---Ewww! Absolutely gorgeous guitar but not sure if i could ever get used that neck!
For the money and if you can live with modern features---the AmSe Tele was a great buy.
I only had about half an hour so not sure this is helpful but I will store these impressions away for my next Fender purchase.
