Trying to get a little life in the bottom end, so want to talk about instruments?

Current toys:
Fender Jazz (Mexican, late 90s) - my main axe; not as nice as the '64 Jazz I learned on

Fretless 'Project' (older Carvin body (I think), nameless neck) - nice for mellow stuff, but I can't play it in tune if there are more than 2 flats

Electra P-Bass style (early 70s) - working on this one. Nice basic sound, but needs more adjustment.

Amps:
Fender Dual Showmen Reverb
Bassman 100 (2002 version)
Woodson 200 (with the 115 cabinet) - lives at home for practice
GK Backline 250 / Fender Bassman 115 - lives with the Youth Praise Band; played by my son and his Schecter...

Anyone want to post your toy list?

My bass right now is a little Yamaha RBX250 - light as a feather but alas not very punchy. I've been thinking about putting a hotshot P-bass pickup in it, but I'm not sure how much difference that would make.

I play through a Crate B100(?) head (which doesn't sound great but it's LOUD!) into a PV cab with a 15 and 2 8s (I think).

Other thoughts...
My first bass was a Rick 4001, bought because Sir Paul played one. Then I realized I didn't really like its unique tone, so I sold it.

Current object of my GAS is a Fender American J-bass, but it's a leeeeeetle beyond my reach at the moment. Lord, if You're listening and want me to have it, feel free to work out the details!

I put an active EMG P/J set in my RBX350 when the stock pickups started going south. It sounds a lot better than it ever did. I don't know what Yamaha puts in the 250. Probably something similar. New pickups might be worth the investment for you if you like how the instrument handles otherwise. I know nothing about the Hotshot pickups.

Ahhh, a Fender J... :-) Good stuff. I'd get a fretless Fender J next if I could justify the expense. The Lord hasn't got me playing much anymore, though, and when I do my Yamaha or my Lakland 55-01 work plenty well enough for the low end.

BTW, bass is my main instrument, but... my guitar is a Mexican Strat that I customized with a Callaham trem block, graphite saddles and Bill Lawrence pickups. I play a Mitchell acoustic sometimes, too.

You mean something like this? http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y6/tgbluesky/Jbass1a.jpg
It is on the TDPRI Garage Sale at the moment, with one interested local buyer coming next week to look at it. Leaving for the weekend, but you can call me at home, :-s :-s :-s :-s if you are interested. Sorry for the spam, just trying to help a brother.....

webmaster edit: had to delete a phone number. Please note everyone, not a good idea to post your phone number on the internet, unless of course you want a lot of crank calls, salesman cold calls, etc..

Yes, Tom, I saw that (thanks to Jazzrat for the tip). You've done some nice mods and have a SWEET bass :-) I'd love to take it off your hands. Unfortunately, it's a little nicer than my wife says I can afford right now  but one of these days............

No problem at all - if the heart's right, all's right.

I think I posted the former owners pic of this bass but now it's in my yard! :-) It's a Carvin LB-20 Flame over alder with maple neck and ebony board. H50N Humbucking pups
I much prefer the tone to my old Koa LB-75. I have shed all my guitars and basses with active electronics. Just my opinion but the tone sounds a little more pure with passive systems.

My amp is nothing special. If I play bass at church I use the Fender amp that is there.
For jazz gigs I use a Centaur Acoustic amp. It is really an acoustic guitar amp but since I often take a guitar and a bass to jazz gigs it's perfect.
It has 125 watts, a single 15 and two tweeters so it covers a lot of ground for me.

I posted my guitar pics in the Guitars forum, but here is the bass collection.

On the left, the workhorse Fender Jazz. The center is a "project" fretless - I was told it's a Carvin body, but I'm not sure. It has a great sound - fun to play. The Electra still needs some work. I bought it on ebay - the pick guard is plywood that someone cut to fit - almost. It has a nice "old school" sound, and great action. You get funny looks if anyone notices the extra piece of plastic that hold the jack on.... The amp behind them is a Woodson, in case any of you are familiar with that "vintage" gear!

Nice collection! \:D/

Interesting headstock on that project bass. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it, the way it's squared off at the end. How did that come about?

I suspect it was an "improvement" by whoever pulled the frets... it was already like that when it came to live with me!

2004 Fender American Jazz Bass: Blonde w/ash, Maple fingerboard, Bada$$ bridge, EMG pickups w/ blend, bass and treble controls; output jack moved to the edge of the bass (where a LesPaul's jack is). I've also got all the original electronics, too.

This is an incredible bass- one of the finest I've ever played, let alone a Fender. Got it from a close personal friend who had it built to his specs for studio work.

My last bass was a Rick 4001 that I sold in the late 80's. If I come across the right deal on one, I'll get another one of those, too.
