Got 'em on order.....boutique alnico overwound. At $53 including shipping for 3 strat pups,it's a bargain. Great reviews, not just on Harmony Central, but Tele Discussion Page.
I've had just about everything from vintage to custom wound like most of you,but I feel good about these pickups...it's a gut thing, you know?
Check ebay...on the Tele Page a guy put up some sound bites of his GFS pups,a cross between a PAF and a Gretsch Filtertron--sounded fantastic.
BTW, I am totally unassociated with GFS---just passing potential good news along. :angel

Well, I'm replying to my own post...got the hot alnico staggered pups in,and I am blown away how good they sound.I wasn't sure at first, but after a week, they are definitely the best bang for the buck if you want that DiMarzio/Seymour Duncan vibe.Maybe not as good as the real custom jobs, but for $54 in the door,I'm stoked. I've had custom rewinds, original vintage, and "booteek" stuff......no one touches this product for the money. The pups clock in at (neck to bridge, aprox.) 8.2K,8.5K,and 9K....with lotsa bluesy clucky top end.
For my custom stuff I will always go with Wolfe at Wolfetone for my rewinds, but this is a ridiculous bargain.Next, pups for a tele! \:D/

Refin,
Is the high end still clear and Straty with the GFS pups? Is the middle RWRP?

I've only played with the hot alnico staggers, but it has top end sorta like a good Tex/Mex,generous in the high mids, and very musical. The middle pup is wound reverse too. They are pretty darn quiet altogether.
I've used the Dream 180 ( filtertron/bucker ) in the neck of a tele and it's a fine sounding pickup. Not as open, detailed or touch sensitive as the Duncan Seth Lover or hand wound J Moore pups I have, but for the money, a great sounding pickup. I've heard great things about the alnico strat pups ( for the low $$, how can you go wrong! ) and mixed reviews
( although most have been positive ) on the tele pups. I hate to keep saying "for the money", ( as these are darn good in their own right ) but truly, they are a great bargain. The Ricky toaster style and mini hums look very interesting as do the Dream 90s. I was going to purchase a few more of the buckers for a project, but happened on a fella who hand winds whatever I need for nearly as low a price as the GFS. Gotta go with the hand wounds! Now, if he'd just wind strat and tele pups, I'd be set!

I've got my eye on the toaster DeArmond style too..........don't know if I want to get the pups on my Ricky rewound or just get 2 of these.
I am really liking their stuff....
BTW.if you want strat and tele pups rewound, you should contact Wolfe at www.wolfetone.com
He does everything, and he's real easy to work with (love's what he does) and wants to nail your sound.Single coil rewinds were about $30 last I checked. It does make it hard to buy over the counter.
I have no affiliation with Wolfetone, just a happy customer.
I'm having GFS Overwound humbuckers put in my LP. I should get it back the middle of the week. I heard really good things about them.
As for my strat and tele: I use Bill Lawrence. They're inexpensive, very quiet and sound great.

I love Bill Lawrence pickups---I still have an old blade stack tele bridge pup,and it sounds fantastic.I may order one of his front stacks to go with it.
I'm really enjoying the GFS---very organic,sweet,and nasty(can I say that here? :angel ).

Bill makes excellent pickups. But you have to wait. I ordered tele pickups almost 6 weeks ago. But they're worth it. :-)
I should know about the GFS in a few days.
