On how to get a bass to sound great on this guitar riff?

YouTube - A New Hallelujah - Michael W Smith

This week, again our family of musicians is on strike (a different thread that I have yet to start) and I am playing bass (instruments are piano, bass and drums). We are playing this, and I am debating with myself whether I take an electric and play it for this one song (only being guitar, drums and piano), or whether I play way up the neck on the bass for this riff. If I do the latter, I am thinking about a bit of OD and some bass chorus. But I'm not yet happy with results.

Any suggestions?

Do an acoustic set. Acoustic, snare and piano/keys. Let the keys handle the bass notes. It's easy enough to cover with one guitar minus all the slide stuff underneath

Guitar, piano and drums makes more sense to me than bass, piano and drums (but I have played a lot without a bass player or drums). I like the idea of an "unplugged" set as well.

Well, with the way our director plays piano, and her musical choices, it actuall makes more sense (usually) to have piano bass and drums (and sounds better). But I may bring a guitar for this one piece.

It appears that the original is in G, but we will be playing in Eb (of course). I'm thinking of tuning down a half step so I can play the lick the same way as the guitarist on the video (albeit at fret 0 rather than fret 3...LOL). But I have tried with the acoustic and with an electric, and right now to me the electric sounds a bit better. Not much to play, between the riffs anyway, leaving a lot of space for the singers.
