I recently sold my TL-60 Tele style Carvin. Awesome guitar but with the hum pups it sound too similar to my Carvin Contour 66.
After much thought I decided I needed a.....Tele
My C66 covers the hard rock duties.
MY Heritage 575 Custom does jazz and Rock-a-Billy really well.
A Tele seems like the logical choice to overlap the other two a little but
also bring some spank to the table.
I bought this from a worship pastor in B'Ham Al. off the Taylor forum.
American Series...Ocean Turquoise
Should be here next week!

Don't get me goin' Stephen! I already can't wait.
It's stock either Am Standard or Am Series not sure but it's pretty recent.
Comes with a gig bag which is fine since I only live about three blocks from church.
Here are a couple other pics. It is not as blue as some of the pics show.
The back photo shows more green. He called it teal. My guess is it is Ocean Turquoise.

Gig bags are fine by me. I carry my '52 RI around in a gig bag mostly, because they're handy.
That's a right nice Tele in the pics.

I also had a H-575 (and an Eagle, before that). Now I just use my Tele for everything, but I'm experimenting with a parts-o-caster and some bridge materials to see if I can get a Fernandes to sound like an L5. :crazy
Jazz is great but its best use is for fills on Worship tunes, I think.

That is a good looking Tele; I liked it when I thought it was blue (first pic), but even better when I saw the turquoise pic! There is a good chance you will find it all you need

I like gig bags too... My Seagull S-6 has an ugly spot on the top where the latch of it's SKB case hit it as I was removing it from the case - the lid fell as the guitar was being removed (of course the first week I had it....).

Thanks guys. Just got the tracking number. It will be here next Thursday.
Just in time to set it up for Sunday.

Teleguy---I could see myself playing jazz on a Tele. Ed Bickert is on of my favs and he's a Tele guy. Not to mention Ted Greene!

Gig Bags-yup love 'em. That stinking aluminum trim on SKB stlye cases
has put more dings in my guitars.

Dave---It's crime we have not gotten together.
I will be in Boise with the family May 20th and 21st but it's for a school trip to the Discovery Center and I'm on the hook to help herd cats (keep
kids in line)

I really debated getting a CIJ reissue or a 52 RI but for my purposes the bigger frets and flatter radius will be a better transition from my other guitars.
What I really like are the '62 RI Customs...but out of my price range.
I'm sure this Tele will be just great.

TOO cool!

Yep. Stephen is right. I love the color. I used to have a Strat that color a while back. I traded it for a Taylor 12 string. But now I don't have the Taylor any more either.

With the Am Std pups on it, you are going to get a really nice range of girth and twang. I had a '98 MIA Telecaster that was simply the coolest sound (I sold it too  ).

Here is my Strat in that color (IMO, the best solid color that Fender has ever offered):

Nice Rev. I hope it's that color rather than pure blue. I will be content either way but turquoise would be better.
Not sure about the MOTO pickguard. I may switch that to parchment or vintage white (mint)

Yeah, an H-575 is a dandy Jazz guitar, but I can get a passable tone on a Tele.
I really liked my H-575, but Blue Note (Berkeley, CA) has them made up custom with spruce tops. I think I would like an H-575 with a spruce top next time. Or maybe TWO. After all, I like the solid maple thing pretty well too. Makes 'em pretty versatile. :angel

A guy over on the Gear Page has a really nice 575 Custom for sale
Spruce top, HRW 4-point pup. $1400
Expensive but a great deal for that guitar.

I would love nothing better than to gig with the Tele rather than schlep
the 575 around. I have a case cover over the hard case and it weighs 'bout a hundred pounds.

Nice Score, Jazzrat! Yer right, no collection of sound spectrum tools is complete without a Tele. For such a simple tool, a Tele can do so much. If you ever want to take it to the next level, slap in a set of Kinman pickups, and a 4-way switch. Here's a pic of Ashley, my Tele that I put together mostly from parts I gathered off Ebay. The body was made for me by a friend from California. I did all the finish work myself. The only thing I've changed since this pic is that I flipped the control panel around, so the volume control is up front where I think it belongs. Ashley is one sweet ride, and a great worship instrument IMHO.

Love it SA! The control panel flip is one of the first mods I'm doing.

SAguitar

Yeah, that one seemed like a no-brainer to me. I like having the volume knob more accessible than the pup selector switch. And the 4-way switch is really nice, it takes a Tele to the next level. If you're not aware, the 4-way adds the combo of the two pickups in series, which gives you a much fatter tone, almost like having one big ol' humbucker in there. It lets the humble Tele cover even more sonic territory, and definitely improves its jazz-ability!

And the Kinmans, whoa... don't even get me started talkin' about Kinman pickups, you guys will get tired of hearing me rave about them!

The Tele is here guys. I need to get some pics 'cause it looks nothing
like the photos above. It is much more a blue green than the blue you see above, more similar to the back photo. It's in really nice shape.
Serial number search says it's a '98.
It came from squishy Alabama to high desert Idaho so the neck was a ski jump. Truss rod responded nicely so with a full setup this lttle guitar is ready for Sunday.
This is only my third Tele in 30 or so years of playing so I am no guru but
this guitar was a good choice to fill in some tones missing with my other guitars.
The most recent Fenders I can compare it to are a 2001 AmSE strat and an American Dlx Tele both of which I sold. Neither guitar would set up properly for my picky action requirements.
This Tele set up and plays great.
I'm wondering if the AM standard and AM Series had some fundamental differences beside the rolled edges and stuff they hyped when the Am Series came out.
I seem to remember an American Standard Strat I had played much better than my American Series.
I'm sure I'm splitting frog hairs here but...that's what I do best!
Anyway, I'm blessed and tickled to have this Tele.
Better pics to follow....someday

WOW!!!!!

I've never seen frog hairs! They must be pretty small.

I'm guessing that the color is closer to my Strat color than you originally thought? It is a nice color. My wife wants me to buy a Satarn Vue that is the same color :dunno .

Offically in this year of mfg. the color was called Aqua Marine metallic.
For the life of me it looks like the old Ocean Turquoise.
Frog hairs are really bitty by the way. Kinda like the importance of my guitar fetish in the grand scheme of things :-) :angel

...I'm wondering if the AM standard and AM Series had some fundamental differences beside the rolled edges and stuff they hyped when the Am Series came out...

I thought the AM Standards were rolling the fretboard edge, towards the end of their run. I guess that all started with the Deluxe versions?

I believe one of the differences was on Strats: they got rid of the swimming pool rout and went with H-S-H universal.

Howz she sound?

...I won't know for sure how it sounds till Sunday. I just have an acoustic guitar amp at home. At church I have a Carvin SX-100 for a.m. and a Hot Rod Dlx for p.m. so I'll know more then.
It is heavy but sustains like an LP. I think it's gonna be great!
