View Full Version : J-Station
Just picked up a nice, used J-Station for cheap. Any pointers or tricks I should know about? I know Refin uses his to great (pardon the pun) effect. Only had time to plug it in once, but I really liked the tones I got with a bit of tweaking. Thanks!

Hey Brad, congrats on the J,thanks for the kind words!
Recordingwise,I find myself using two main models for rhythm(black face andBrit combo),but will always twist the selector around if something ain't working. For solos,it's almost always the blues setting. There is so much variation of tones with the EQ,compressor, and gain settings.I just set the knobs on the fly in the blues patch to match the guitar and drive amount I want.I like cabinet setting #8.The noise gate works pretty good too.
I have a midi control pedal for using the J live for gigs with no backline.

Hey! I've got a J-station as well. I really like the "black face" model... I set the gain to 2 or 3 and then adjust the EQ/Level etc. to taste... That to my ears is about as close to a "tube about to break up" as I've heard from a modeler... I know Refin likes the "blues" model a lot.
If you haven't done so yet, be sure to get the "J-Editor" from the website (along with the latest updates if they haven't been installed). The J-Editor is as good as any other I've seen! It makes everything simple! Johnson amplification got bought out, but the webisite (with the last product releases, a bunch of user submitted patches, and the J-Editor) is still there.

Hey Refin, when I pulled mine out initially, the main output pot was a bit noisy... It seems to be getting better now that I've been using it for a little while... Have you ever tried to clean the pots on yours or anything? I'd guess they are optical pots based on how the posts feel...
Brad - I forgot to mention that one of the bass amp models is a dead ringer for an SVT and sound absolutely awesome as well!

I have 2 Js---the one I use in the studio has a scratchy master volume, been meaning to clean it.I should do that this weekend. It's just that I set it and forget it,so it isn't a constant nagging.
Hey MusicChad, you are right about the blackface patch ('specially with a little comp.)---it is great clean too!
Thanks so much for the great tips guys! I need to spend some quality time with it and go from there. Thanks for the website.....I'll be heading right over!
