Well, after much searching and playing and disappointment I finally found a nice acoustic electric for under $500.00. It seems like I always look everywhere then end up at a local mom & pop and they always have just what I need. I have to say I was amazed at the deplorable state most of the supposedly 'new' guitars were in. The big box stores have so many guitars on their walls that are beat, scratched, corroded, etc..... very sad.
Anyway the guitar I went with was an Ibanez, the upper end of their AW series, solid englemann spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, B-Band pre-amp system. List is something like $900.00, this was hanging with a $630.00 tag. Pop said he couldn't move the guitar because if anyone was looking in the 6-700.00 range they'd spend the extra money to get a low end Taylor to have the name on the headstock. I grabbed it for $450.00 w/ a nice padded gig-bag thrown in.
I've played a ton of guitars recently and with the exception of a one Taylor and one Martin (2500.00-3500.00 range) and one 600.00 Yamaha that some one had put a golf-ball sized hole in the back; this was far and away the best sounding and playing and in this price range nothing even came close!
