Our piano player was on vacation for the past two weeks, so we had "true Telecaster Praise and Worship" as I was the only musician and played all songs but one on my Tele. The one exception was "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus", which I played on acoustic - what a train wreck. I had worked a 12 hour shift Saturday night, got off at 6:00 am, and I guess becasue I was so tired I really messed that one up, and it was the easiest song of the day! Of course it was the offertory so everyone could here me getting ahead of the singers :x

We did two new songs this past week - Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken and In The Cross Of Christ I Glory - old hyms set to new music. I found the arrangenments at the Reformed University Fellowship site - a great resource http://www.igracemusic.com/igracemusic/hymnbook/home.html

Of course they ended up sounding quite a bit different than the sound samples on the site. We did Michael W. Smith's "Friends" for the offertory on the 12th as a way to say goodbye to our Pastor and his wife - it was his last Sunday with us before he transferred. That was pretty tough to get through!

Sunday the 19th:
Opening:
Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken - modern arrangement
Here I Am, Lord

Hymn:
In The Cross Of Christ I Glory - modern arrangement

Offertory:
I Have Decided To Follow Jesus

Doxology

Closing:
Shout To The North

Suday Sep. 12th:
Opening:
Cry Of My Heart
Here I Am To Worship

Hymn:
Our God Reigns

Offertory:
Friends

Doxology

Closing:
Lord You Have My Heart

The good thing about goofing up in church is that everyone will be merciful and only chide you for a month or two (giggles). ;)

The funny thing is that the singers told me they didn't notice

There are times that I have botched it bad, and people told me they thought I never sounded better :? ! I think we are just hyper-critical of ourselves. I know I am!

For some reason, I was always more concerned about botching stuff when playing in church. If I'm playing in the usual blues/rock type band in a club, I botch stuff all the time, and don't care. When that part of the song rolls around again - I'll botch it a second time on purpose! But, in church I'm always way more conscientious about it. I don't know why.

I think it is because we are offering our music up as a sacrifice to God, and we want to put our best offering before him.

But I definitely agree with you, I wasnt as worried when I played in the clubs: i f I blew it, I blew it. In Church though,.......I start kickin myself!

Some would say it wouldn't hurt my playing much were my hands webbed!

Every bass player here in Santa Cruz, plays guitar better'n me.
But I show up on time! 8)

Hopefully, being prompt and excited to be there counts for something, 'cause I'll never get by on licks alone
