So the fam and I were out having dinner today, and this heavily tatooed guy walks past me.....on the back of his shirt were the following words:
"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you're not."
Had to stop and think on that one, makes sense in a lot of ways.

.... you are right.
Far too many people spend their lives trying to get liked or even loved. Many people suffer from fears of not being good enough as they are. Afraid that their person can't be loved. There is a zillon seminars, books and articles on how to get people to like you or love you. Have YOU can change into being someone people look up to and respect.
Well I am glad I know someone who loves me exactly as I am, with all my flaws, shortcommings, bad sides and the good. He knows I am not a Saint, he has seen all my mistakes and wrongdoings, but he loves me the same...
Thanx Jesus

Amen.
Anybody else's (besides the Lord's) opinion of me is none of my business!

Yes, and thanks to being credited with righteousness, it's easier to please the Lord than it is most people!

"It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you're not."
Sounds like an old southern rock song title. :-)

That isn't very far from the perspective the early Christians lived by (c.a. 33-250AD~). You see, for them in many (if not most) cases - being a follower of Christ meant jailtime or worse - a death sentence. Especially true for the leadership of the congregations. Yet they didn't back down from their steadfast hope!
Scary as that is - when you think about the practical reality of that happening and all it involves - they knew if Jesus gave them his approval, all the hatred and persecution from the world was a mere "temporary, light affliction" producing an eternal reward beyond compare.
Polycarp (wrote around 100AD, was a friend of Apostle John) was on trial and the official told him if he would recant his confession of Christ that he would be free to go... Polycarp said this before a stadium of bloodthirsty Romans:
"...eighty and six years have I served him, and he never once wronged me; how then shall I blaspheme my King, who has saved me?" During that trial he was accused of being an athiest [the crowd was chanting "Athiest, Atheist"] for not recognizing the Roman gods... pointing at the crowd he said, "...away with the atheists."
He was burned at the stake by the mob shortly thereafter. The account of his testimony and trial is amazing and humbling to read.
Another writer, Tertullian (circa 190AD, a lawyer turned evangelist) expressed a principle that has long been forgotten by the modern church... he said, "The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church...The more you kill us, the greater in number we grow!"
I pray for the day when the Church will stand in the gap and be "old school" again, regardless of what is popular culture, is politically correct, or what plain-old-watered-down-pew-warmers want to hear!
Let us not be examples of good Christians - rather: Let us be examples of excellent Christians, called to a glorious standard and an undeniable hope!
Okay - not sure why this topic sparked me... I hope these words bless you!

"Foxes book of Martyrs" (spelling?)
Or the more modern "Jesus Freaks" books are good places to read about Polycarp and many other's that have been Martyred for their faith.
Good call Kewlpack.

Yessir! I said earlier that Jesus is easier to please than men. While it might not seem like it, when we look what our forefathers in the early church underwent, when viewed from an eternal prospective it rings blazingly true!

Well, it's good to see the Spirit still stirred in you between pastoral appointments, bro! And yes, the words did indeed bless me! Let me know next time you preach somewhere.

Credit goes to my bud and recent TDPRI member Tdot. He's a graphic design artist and he came up with this improvement over my design of it. "I say, I say now that there's chickin-pickin', son!"

Awwww, c'mon! Silly? This is Looney Tunes we're talkin' about, bro! Part of the fabric of American culture... :-) I really think the chin hawk is hilarious, too!
We have two DVD collections of LT's at home. When the weather's bad, my three-year old daughter gets in my lap and we watch them. Quality daddy-daughter time!

The original Mel Blanc Looney Tunes rock seriously...that guy had stupid talent for voices.
And how about the orchestration for the music? No digital stuff back then, little boys...no cut and paste with Pro Tools....real guys, reading real charts! :shock

Well,it's my thread so let's hijack it into Looneyville!
Even with all the new technology, the new Warner Bros. stuff falls flat compared to the old school stuff.........maybe not enough tubes in the signal chain.
The old Looney Tunes-----'59 Bassman
New Looney Tunes---------Pod

What's equally bad is the editing they've done to the originals to remove the violence. We can watch Masters of the Universe destroying planets, but we can't see Foghorn Leghorn whapping the beagle in the backside with a 2x4. Once again, political correctness wins and everybody else loses. :banghead

There's a country song in there somewhere... :innocent
