View Full Version : My first try at a multi track song (pardon my playing!)

Hey ya gang,

I decided that I'd try to actually put a simple little song clip together. It isn't anything fancy, but it was SURE FUN!

I did everything with the GNX4 - Drums through the drum machine (tweaked to taste); played my 50th Strat (the one in my pic on the other thread) as a bass (it has a bass sim); then the clean Rhythm ala Fenderish, and a totally tubescreamer lead on top (please don't laugh at me!).

Anyway - I'm blown away at what this thing can let me do... so many fun possibilities.

MIX 1 (more lead, less background) (http://www.kewlpack.com/misc_files/Music/AlexsFirstMix.mp3)
MIX 2 (lead and background instruments evened out) (http://www.kewlpack.com/misc_files/Music/AlexsFirstMixTake2.mp3)

What do ya think? :D

Cool, Kewl! Are you gonna add some singing to that?

Uhm... singing... well...

The song is something I did off the top of my head last night. I had just installed ProTracks and thought, "Hmmm, I wonder how this thing works." So I just started throwing it together... I didn't think it would even turn out. I have a LOT to learn about this recording/mixing stuff.

I might revisit the basic melody and plug in some lyrics - maybe. We'll see...

That's great. You got a lot of stuff figured out. That is the challenge of getting started or even motivated.

I would say that this is a far better attempt at multi-tracking than my first few years of trying back in the '80's.

BTW, I am currently working on a Christian themed blues song. So far, I have tracked two guitar parts, a drum sequence, two bass parts (never tried that - -it sounds good), a piano and the Hammond. I want to get some sax players over to spice up the chorus & bridge. Not that it needs it, but I want to take this song over the edge in product terms. I have yet to write the lyrics. A few things have crossed my mine, but no commitment yet. When I get the words written, I want to get a powerful bluey vocalist to lay down her voice. Then I want a inspiring black sounding choir jumping for joy on the chorus line. I can hear it, I just have not come up with the talent yet. I hope to get it finished by this weekend. But, I need some GREAT singers.

That is a great song. But mine is of considerably different texture. Your song has a bit of a drive going for it. My song is a slower type song (but not in the classic Stormy Monday genre). Mine has a very distinct influence from Jimi Hnedrix and a production feel of Eric Clapton. Perhaps a good example for comparison would be like the Arc Angels or Charlie Sexton.

I am trying to connect with an awesome singer at our church. Hopefully I can get her over to record in the next three days. That means I had better start commiting to some words real soon.

Very Kewl, Kewlpack!

Nice, melodic lead playing there! Keep it up!

Thanks for sharing that with us!
