Well I took the plunge and bought a WGS Veteran 30. The chintzy crate speaker was not an option, and I needed a speaker.
Since I like Celestion Vintage 30's, and this speaker is a clone of that for half the price, it was a no-brainer, so I pulled the trigger.
My first thought was, since I yanked the speaker out of my Crate amp, and dropped the Celestion into it, I'd just drop this one into my hot-rodded G40V, but something went south on that amp, so into my Crate V18 it goes.
O M G
That Celestion sound is there, but not as prominent, and there is a very subtle shift in frequencies in this speaker: The highs and mids are ever so slightly shifted down, and the bass/bottom end maybe gets a slight move upwards. Its just what this amp needed! Its almost like it was made for the V18.
It is so subtle, that most will probably not notice the difference, but to my ears, that subtle shift was phenomenal.
And it seems a tad louder than the Vintage 30.
Louder is always gooder.
Oh, and I think they are somehow breaking the speakers in before they ship em too you, because it does not have that new speaker tightness sound/feel too it at all. It was ready to roar right outta the box.
At half the price of a Celestion, and a subtle shift in the frequencies for the better, well I dont have to be a rocket scientist to know that I will be buying a truck load of these speakers.
