I've been asked to help come up with an opening to a celebration event for our church. This celebration event marks the final stage of the building campaign--one that has been years in the making. We need to be able to pull in folks attention, get them excited, and ask them to come on board for the final push. So here's my thought: We could start off with a construction themed number that uses "found" intsruments to create rhythm. Ideas might include grinders on an I beam throwing off sparks, screwdrivers on PVC pipe, hammers on metal trash containers, shaking sheet metal, bbs in copper pipe, chainsaws, circular saw cutting board, drumsticks on plastic pails, etc..... If you're familiar with Blue Man Group or Stomp, you understand what I'm going for.

Here's the question: What song would you use? Think of a strong beat and construction, building, faith, or commitment, etc themed... Or would you just write your own arrangement?

Thanks for thelp guys!

Phil Keaggy's version of "Be Thou My Vision" comes to mind. I think it's on the "True Believers" cd.

I thought the cash register intro on Pink Floyd's "Money," was great!

.... any song can be made into a construction yard hit. We did some experimenting with that for a movie soundtrack some years ago, and the trick was really to choose the right sounds to "copy" the effects of musical instruments and create a steady groove. Good luck with your project :-)

Ummm, the old gospel tune "Workin' On A Building" comes to mind.

Just a thought.

There's a leak in this old building
and my soul has got to move
my soul has to move
my soul had got to move
said there's a leak in this old building
and my soul has got to move
to a building not made with hands
(repeat)

Before this time
another year
I may be dead and gone
but I want you to know
before I go
that my soul has found a brand new home

well this building keeps on leanin
and my soul has got to move
my soul has got to move
my soul has got to move
said this buidling keeps on leanin
and my soul has got to move
to a building not made by hands

Amazing grace
how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost
but now i'm found
I was blind but now I see

Don't know how to post music so if you pm me I can mail you a cassette or cd with the music etc.
