View Full Version : THD Yellowjackets - anyone ?
I'm thinking about putting a pair of THD Yellowjackets [Class A / EL 84 tube converters] in my Mesa Satellite 60 which is a straight forward 1-channel tube amp driven by a pair of 6L6 power tubes.
I'm looking for a chimier, spongier sound at moderate levels.
Has anyone out there any experience with the yellowjackets??
Blessings

...... but I've heard others say nice things about em.
I do know this, the THD Univalve (15 watt class A amp) is on the top of my wish list as far as amps go! I've tried a boat load of amps, and thats the one I would most like to get! that coupled with a celestion is soooo sweeeet!

Sorry I'm hopping in on this one a bit late....
I use yellow jackets in my deluxe reverb reissue. I LOVE the sound of the EL84s. They do have more chime, more sponge, and break up at lower levels. I think you'll love them--if you're into a lot of harmonics and a lttle bit less "focused" sound. I keep my other tubes (6L6 or 6V6--I can't recall) as back ups now in case the EL84s blow. I'd be losing a bunch of shimmer if I went back to the stock setup. I ended up buying a class a EL84 amp as a result of the yellowjackets.
