Friday afternoon I took a ride to the near north side of Chicago to the Lakland factory. They had some special events planned for their 10th anniversary, Thursday night was a concert at the Park West which I missed. But Friday was a master class and then the open house milling about and chatting with none other than Joe Osborne, Bob Glaub, Jerry Scheff, Duck Dunn and Daryl Jones. These guys were so cool to hang out with and chat it was almost unbelieveable! Funny and personable, just a joy to be around for a bit. The proceeds from everything went to the Merit School of Music in Chicago, a very worthy cause to promote music instruction where the schools have dropped programs because of lack of funding. Had my truck broken into and my little Vox Pathfinder stolen, but taking the day off and attending was still well worth it. Here's a link to the info on the Lakland site, this was WAY cool!

I heard a lot of good things about this event in another forum. A lot of super talent rolled into one evening, and all playing Laklands. AFAIK, none of them have ever been known for playing Christian music, though. Does anyone here know?
BTW, one of my own basses is a Lakland. It's one of the best basses I've ever had the priviledge to play!

Not sure if any of them have played Christian music, I believe that Bob Glaub has done some playing with Larry Carlton. I had a Lakland 55-01 for about 2 years, great bass but decided to stick with 4 strings. It was a great event, where else did you hear about it?

Lakland Basses forum at The Dudepit (on ezboard) (http://p096.ezboard.com/fthedudepitfrm21)
It's not a Christian-specific message board, but they seem like a good group of people. Probably some Christians there other than myself, I don't know. Lots of pictures and message threads but nothing in the way of Christian-specific topics AFAICS. Go up a level to the main Dudepit and there are several other bass-related forums. It's owned by Steve "Dude" Barr. He's a Lakland dealer (among other brands). I think he knows Dan Lakin personally, but I don't know for sure offhand. He had a group of "Dudepitters" there in Chicago with reserved seats right up next to the stage.
FWIW, I bought a set of TI Flats from him earlier this year and probably would've considered buying my 55-01 from him had I known he was there before I bought from MF.
Anyway, in my opinion, if you're serious about basses (however many strings), you might want to check out The Dudepit. It can't compare to this forum, but you may find it worthwile.

I've been on the Dudepit for a couple of years now. I've met some good Christian men there and made some friends. It's a land mine filled board for a believer, but God wants me there in some capacity. My handle over there is BLUESKY. Met Steve and several others at the Lakland open house and master class.

"Landmine"... Yeah, that's for sure... :shock Guess I've got some catchin' up to do, then. I've only been on Internet message boards for a month or so so far. The Dudepit was the first one I joined. Were you on any Christian BBSs back in the days of DOS and Windows 3.1? I ran one in Florida named Cornerstone. We had a few national message echoes online for a while, one named Christnet.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll see you around at the pit, too. I feel encouraged to lurk over there more now that I know I'm not the only Christian. You can find me over there as either bardani or 49plus, but mostly as bardani. I like that handle more.

Nice to see you here. No, I wasn't on any BBSs way back when, too cheap to own a computer... Glad to see that you are over at the 'Pit too, they sure need some salt and light. They can be a real rough crowd, so I stay out of certain discussions. There are a number of believers there, so we are not alone. Take care and God bless.
