Yoo Hoo,are you out there?
Anyone using a vintage Lester Jr or Melody Maker in church?
Full tonal surprises and challenges are a must to print.

No, but I did play my Les Paul on just one pickup (sometimes) last weekend in church. Does that count?

Two weekends before that, I played my walnut "The Paul" with two Seymour Phat Cat (like a P90) pickups in it.

Yes, I had a moderm Melody Maker last year, with the P-90.

It was a great guitar with a great sound, but I eventually replaced it with a LP Special double cutaway with two P-90's in soapbar mounts that I could get closer to the strings with.

The last LP Jr reissue I saw had a dogear mount like my MM, but the strings were right close because the way the guitar was built. My MM was farther away from the strings.

I enjoy one pickup guitars quite a bit, because they force you to optimize you amp settings and get as much range as you can by the limitations.

Once back to multiple pickups I still orient to the bridge pu and the rest is gravy!

It worked very well at church, BTW. Once rolled back a bit, a bridge only P-90 has quite a remarkable range available. Rock songs or soft reflective moments, they're all in there.

Yup. The P90 is a venerable spiritual weapon.

I full to intend to manifest some P90 goodness the next time I get to sit in with the P&W team...

You do that, Crunchman! I've done a little studyin' lately and now believe it is very likely the Thummim was a P90. Aaron kept it close to his heart, and it helped him determine the will of God.

HAR!!!

THUMMIN?

Ya mean STRUMMIN?

Perhaps, the translation is not clear to me since I can't read it in the original language. But from Exodus 28:30, the Urim and the Thummim were to be carried over Aaron's heart whenever he went into the Lord's presence.

If the Thummim was worn over Aaron's heart, that indicates to me that Aaron used a very short guitar strap on his axe.

Now, if you are going into the presence of the Lord, would you rather have a P90 with you, or a Seymour SH-12 Screamin' Demon? :dunno

Ah....

Truly, in His presence, that's probably the last thing I'd consider!

Choices available, P90's!!

Today's service was NOT the day for skronkin' tone onna P-90!

The other (lead) guitar guy wasn't there. What I love doin' is playin' rhythm and fills.
It's really fun to dial up some "skeero-onnkkk!" for a quick passing fill on the opening song, and watch the congregation glare at the poor guy! :innocent

But today's set was fairly sedate from the git-go. No place to hide when you're the only guitar up there, even if I'm hiding in the back line goofin' with the bass and drummer.

Oh, well, buddy, sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. My worst day of worship has been way better than my best night giggin' in a bar.

I didn't make it to church this weekend because I have a cold. It's not that I feel too terrible to make it there, but I felt I would have been a distraction with my constant sneezing and coughing. So my wife and I stayed home, but I did pray for the worship team, the pastors, the service, those whom God brought there, y'know, the usual stuff.

I did pick up my music packet and learned that I'm playing bass on Good Friday's evening services. We're opening with "The Wonderful Cross." I love playin' bass on that one. We usually open it with a bass solo, with just a synth pad droning under it. I do that one on my fretless, and it's a ton o' fun. Then, on the second chorus, we build it into a full-on rock frenzy. I'm lookin' forward to that evening, and what an awesome event it always is, celebrating the Fact that Jesus gave it all for the likes of us. Praise his Holy Name!

Good on you for not exposing people if you're contagious.

The Wonderful Cross, is a great one!

Yeah, I'll make it into work tomorrow, and expose all those characters. They're not family!

I could have snuck in to the service and slipped up to the balcony where not too many sit, and avoided contact, but I still would have been distracting sittin' up there like I was hawkin' up hair balls while God is doin' business with people's hearts. Nah, I'll just stay home, read His word, and pray.

You have "The Paul" :shock Oh my gosh! I have been wanting to get one of those for twenty plus years! I owned one back in 79-81, and I should have never have gotten rid of it!, except it was loaded with two Seymore Duncan paf's.

OK, just to make sure, its kinda like a LP Special, with a bevel on the body by where your strumming arm rests, and the 3 way selector is down by the volume/tone controls, right, not up at the upper bout, right? Ya got a picture of her?

Well, yes, I do have one (actually, I have two), and I have some pictures. But I just tried to post one, and it doesn't seem to be working on this forum. Maybe I need some pointers.

Anyhoo, Stephen, I do have two of them, and I was just fixin' to put one of them up on Ebay, because I really don't need two. But last year, I was shoppin' for them on Ebay, coz I remember those little walnut characters and they were very nice. So I went nuts, bought two of them within one week, and then had to decide which one to keep. If you are interested, let's start a conversation. Crazy, but that was the second of three times that I've bought pairs of guitars off Ebay.

I had one,and like an idiot I got rid of it.......what a brain burp.
I agree with teleguy....a single P-90 makes you rethink everything! At one time the only guitars that I had were a '57 LP Special and a '56ish LP Jr...one week the front pup in the Special went out,so I had to play it as a Jr. We were on the road, and this was 1975,so P-90s were scarce! I did pop one from our keyboardist when we got home, but it made me rethink everything.Thank God a P-90 and a tone knob work so well together!

Hokay, what a Bozo I am. I knew it was s'posed to be a jpeg! Anyway, here it is. This is the one I'm interested in selling if anyone is interested! It's not totally original, someone replaced the trussrod cover and the switchplate. Also it has a Seymour '79 in the neck position and a JB in the neck. I did put some Dunlop Straplocks on it, too. Other than that, it's all like from the factory. There is about a typical amount of body wear, some little bumps here and there, but nothing serious or damaging. This would be an easy guitar to refinish, if one were so inclined, it's not beat up, it just looks like it's been well loved, and used. The frets are still in great shape. It is really an excellent player's guitar, and would make a great blues axe, or worshipin' guitar. I set it up, and the action is very nice, but aren't all Pauls pretty nice?

The one I decided to keep is the one I put Seymour Phat Cats (humbucker sized P90's) in. It's the Firebrand "The Paul." I don't have pics of that one yet, but should one of these days.

Praise on,
Stan
