As I was driving on the highway to work this morning, I saw a little white car pass me going about 10 mph faster than me. What caught my attention was that the lady driver had both hands on top of her head and messing with her hair. She was driving with NO HANDS!
Now the funny part: I happened to look at the logo on the side of the car as she was passing by. The logo was ProStar. For just a moment, I thought it said OnStar. Then a moment later, I thought "what if that car were being guided by a satalite and on auto-pilot?".
Well, maybe it wasn't funny enough to repeat, but I thought it was funny at the time. :crazy

I see people passing me, reading the newspaper or books!

The only ones you really have to worry about are the guys who are sleeping when they pass you.... or not in the vehicle at all

I've seen this so many times it's crazy. Because I've only had a half a cup of coffee... here's a thought for the day:
These folks who are careening along the highway, completely (unwittingly?) distracted by things that bring them very close to danger. They don't stop to think just how close to catastrophe they really are - until it happens. Drifting in and out of their lane; swerving and winding along. If they wreck, they marvel that this could happen to them (if they survive) and take little responsibility for the damage done. Next thing you know they're right back at it again. Why don't they learn?
Christians everywhere are likewise "cruising along" the spiritual highway. They drift in and out of "their lane", so to speak. Instead of focusing on where they are going - keeping their eyes on the "narrow road" and their hands on the wheel (via Scripture, Prayer, Fellowship, Communion), they are messing around with paltry diversions and distractions... one may even say they are more concerned with their hair and makeup, or news of the day, than they are with the fact that they may not even get to their destination if they don't stay vigilant and wary of the "road hazards" that the enemy throws in their way.
Christians find themselves struggling and losing battles against flesh, sin, and the devil. Sometimes they end up falling away (the worst tragedy). They get discouraged and confused and find that they have lost their way. Like our oblivious commuter, they wonder how they could be so weak, so messed up - such a wreck?! They don't stop for a second to think about their personal responsibility for their condition - casting blame on everyone but themselves for the mess. Again, if they survive without learning the lesson - they are back at it again just like our clueless driver.
My point is to encourage each of us (self included) to FOCUS and hear the Word of God:
Heb 2:1
...pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.
1 Pet 5:8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Tim 4:16
Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
2 Cor 13:5
Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!
Anyway - this just popped into my head when I read Reverbbb's note. Pay attention to where you are going and Jesus will lead you safely to the end (er... beginning...er... well The DAY!). :angel

Man, I had a difficult time on the way to work this morning.
I decided to stop and get me a breakfast burritto thingy on the way to work. As I was opening the burrito to eat, my cell phone rang. So I gripped the steering wheel with my burrito in my left hand and answered the phone with my right hand. It was my sister who was needing me to call her back at another number later today, so I had to find a pen and pad to write the number down. So I tucked the phone between my shoulder and ear and began digging around the glovebox. About that time, the street began to curve so I had to adjust my steering. In the process, the recharging cord to the phone began to get wrapped up with the steering wheel. Fortunately, the street straightened back out and I went back to searching in the glovebox. Suddenly, I realized that I was doing 45 mph in a school zone, so I slowed down quickly. The lady behind me must have been speeding as well, because she was on my bumper and was honking furiously at me. At last, I am out of the school zone with no further incedent. Ah! I found the pen! But just at that moment, all the cars began stop completely stop in front of me. I had not noticed so I had to slam on my brakes. This caused the hot coffee cup between my legs to catapult onto the floorboard at my feet. The lid flew off and hot coffee was everywhere. Then my windows started fogging up from the steam of the coffee. I also lost my grip on my burrito and a portion of it spilled out onto the floorboard. My foot got into the coffee, eggs and cheeze and now my brake pedal was all slippery. It was a silly tiny little dog that caused everyone to come to a sudden stop. All the while, my sister has not stopped talking and asking me questions. Just I began to get up to speed again, I noticed that the coffee cup lid was jammed in between my excelerator and floorboard. So, I was reaching down to dislodge this lid when I began to hear railroad crossing bells. The next thing I know, I am driving over some very rough tracks at 40 mph and I drop the phone. The crossarms of the train track had already started coming down on me and hit the top of my windshield. That resulted in a dent and a scratch on the top of my pickup truck. I finally made it to work and was able to finish what was left of my burrito.
The moral of the story: Next time I am getting an Egg-McMuffin. They are far easier to eat when I drive.

Seems to me they do in California (where EVERYTHING is illegal),
but they just don't enforce it.
Y'know, even if they pull a Senator over drunk they can prosecute, but no way with a soccer mom and a bunch of happy meals. The American Civil Liberties Union would take that one to the Supreme Court. :sprint:

It was my experience that some schmuck could be driving down the street with a crack pipe in one hand, a fattie in the other and a bottle of Jack Daniel's resting between his knees, two 17-year-old floosies in the back seat and a trunk full of various forms of contraband, and I'd get pulled over 50 feet away for having a tail light out.

Write on!
We have a tradition at our church. When we take communion, after I read the words "Do this in remembrance of me" I say "And remembering, we say Thank You, Jesus." At which point the entire congregation responds, "Thank You, Jesus."
Very personal.

There is so much truth to the phrase "we are all sinners". When I was a naive child, I always thought that was rediculous. But as I grew older, I began to understand the scope and profoundness of what that means. I think that most all of us musicians have pasts that were not exactly pointing towards God's will and compatible with living out eternity with Jesus. It is unfortunate that this whole R-n-R music culture took on the theme of rebellion. As we grow and mature, then many of us have grown into understanding how devastating this rebellion attitude can be and where it can take us. Fortunately, many of us on this forum have the ability to become a positive force in this world, and use the same R-n-R genre of sound that we grew up on. It is like God had a master plan for us to go through this phase, so that we knew where and how to apply our tallents.
But this discussion is now getting deep enough for the Doctrine thread.
Back to the light hearted side of this subject, I did not really do all those things in my previous post. (at least, not all at the same time  :crazy :shock :innocent  ).

I do this as I meditate each week during communion, as I converse with the Lord. I say those very words. I also, in a very small gesture, simply cross my heart at the same time (just a personal devotion thing - no "church/theology" reason). I have tried to impart the idea to my little girl when she gives an offering, and times like that too. It's cool to hear of a congregation where they do that together. It means a lot to me!
