Stopped by GC today and picked up a drop I humidifier. I went with the model that has two wafer disks you fill with water and it also has a mini temp/hydro meter with it. I tested the case without the humidity wafer deals and it was around 34% Now it's holding around 50%.
I had to laugh at little at counter. I was on the phone with a guitar buddy and I made a joke "hey it comes with a bottle of water too" the girl behind the counter was not amused! rofl
The only thing is theres no real way to anchor these wafers to the sides of my case. The wafers and the little digital thermo/hydro meter come with adhesive/velcro backing but that is useless with the lining in the case.
I liked the SKB wafer better since it fits snugly in the sound hole but it did not have the digital reader. For now I am velcroing the wafer to the strings over the sound hole. The other wafer is up by the head stock kinda floating.

Hooligan, I think it's really nice of you to start such a good topic, giving your time and sharing your day-to-day (in a way?) experiences.
I hope everybody reads it; I think they'll appreciate it. I'm not a great topic starter; actually more of an observer. I like what I see!:)
I'm on somewhat of a hiatus from guitar playing for now, and for how long I don't know, due to health issues I suppose, and involvement in important family matters. Then I never considered myself a performer, have tried in vain to keep it at the hobby level, and maybe I'll have a topic someday about a big gig I have this Summer, far, far away which I don't want to do. It's a millionaire's party (so what?), attended by millionaires and some "stars"; he has a band, but still wants me to go solo because they "like it", plus I have to play with the band also, and I know they don't want me - I've done it before (if they walk off of the stage and leave me there, does that mean something?rofl); and the guests can go anywhere in the World and see any group or performer they could want. I feel a little awkward as a musician, which I'm not, ha ha, but the Lord keeps putting me there, and my real job is to tell the people to get right with the Lord? What a strange situation - sorry for bringing it up. There would be more of the Christian element, and a repetitive irony, if I made it a topic.:yikes:
All right - HUMIDITY it is then! Yes, thanks again - very important. Good for you! I'm glad you're taking care, plus I hope that you get the guitars you want in the future.
I used to use Dampits, but was concerned that they would drip water inside the guitars. So, I switched to the simplest thing, I think: those little plastic pots with clay in them, and I put them, one each in the cases, including in some of my electric guitars. My house humidity is 25% right now and we look for 45 - 50%.
That is interesting how you measured the humidity inside your case. I've never done that. I suppose I could do it, even with the guitar inside, if I could find my hand-size hygrometer, which is either lost or 'lifted'.:(
Ohhhhh...... I'll let somebody buy me some good Planet Waves humidifiers sometime too as gifts; the pots were supposed to be temporary until I got this thing figured out.:dunno:

I've never even thought of using these. I wonder if I should be?

I still think that this is a super quality thread and a great topic thanks to Hooligan!
If there are any questions about the need for humidification, I humbly refer to this site.

TP, I hope that you can get over you health issues soon and back to playing. I'll be praying about that.
As for me, I am really very new to this stuff so my learing curve is off the charts. My new found passion for playing maked thing svery exciting for me. Every new experience for me is more fuel for the fire.
I imgine that as time goes on I'll get less and less thrilled about these little triumphs and less likely to post them. I've just noticed that all but one thread on this acoustic forum have been started by me. You guys are slackin! Surley there is something going on that you can share to sharpen the rest of us!
