I just picked up the Digitech GSP1101 and Control 2 (on it's way). First the good, This thing does a lot of things really well. Stomp box modeling is really good. The OD and Distortion boxes are dead on for the most part. The best of the bunch is the Guyatone OD. The time based FX are really good especially the delays and reverbs. The choruses, flangers, and phasers are all very usable when used with clean tones.
The cool thing is the stomp boxes can be routed in front of the amp while time based FX can be run in the FX loop. All amp modeling/cabs can be shut off by using the setup wizzard allowing the unit to become an FX processor rather than an amp modeler without having to edit each individual patch.
The Control 2 is supposed to work seemlessly with the GSP1101
The only downside to this unit is it won't switch amp channels like the TC Electronics G Major and the harmonizer is weak.
All in all, I'm looking forward to getting the Control 2 so I can integrate this thing to my church rig. I really think it will make my setup easy and won't sacrifice tone as most processors do.

s The cool thing is the stomp boxes can be routed in front of the amp while time based FX can be run in the FX loop. That is the "4-cable method" of hook-up that is a pretty common feature today with these types of FX/Modeler boxes. Very cool feature that afford quite a bit more flexibility in setup and config. I love it. THe BOSS GT systems have this, my G-System had it, and so forth. MY X3Live does too. Great choices on tap.
Will your Digitech unit allow you to run without amp & cab modeling on 1/4" outs AND XLRs with or without those models for FOH, & at the same time? Does your have XLR outs, too?
I'm telling ya, these modeling boxes are now a viable prospect. I think its great. Welcome to the sandbox, Vic! :D

Ya I can use the XLR outs with cab and modeling while shutting that stuff off on the 1/4 outs. Cool unit!

Well, I got the control 2, have patches set up, used it on Sunday morning worship, and all went well. I brought my Carvin MTS 3212 and my #2 Gibson Flying V. :) I had a problem with the patch for acoustic simulation feeding back but other than that it sounded awesome. The control 2, GSP 1101, and my laptop make editting a breeze! I love this thing!

Used the same rig last night and got many complements on my sound. That lets me know I'm headed in the right direction as I changed some patches around and built a few from scratch. This thing does so much as an FX processor that I can't see getting into all that it has for years. After talking to Cruncyriff the other day I almost want to try running direct. ALMOST! LOL it ain't gonna happen!

you know this is a secret longing... rofl
That said, I can't vouch for or against the DT models. I have no idea what you're dealing with there. But the X3Live direct it da bomb

The modeling in the GPS1101 is most likely very simular to the POD X3. I'm sure not exactly the samr but very close. The FX are outstanding!
I have such a great tone happening right now I'm not changing anything.

Okay let me paint a picture for you:
Guitar or two of choice, GPS1101, and your controller (w/maybe a pedal or two).
That's all you show up with, and it ROCKS THE HOUSE.
That's IT.
It's a beautiful thing.

We all remember the days of schlepping amps, cabs, all weighing-in like an anvil (ACME anvils, of course) collection.
Today: Aside from my briefcase (full of batteries, tools, documents, strings, x-mitters, etc) and MacBook Pro, I've got two guitars, two Gator GK-2110 carry bags (on the way) and....
THAT'S IT!!!
That is my 'anywhere in the USA, of the world' rig.

Yes I know... but just imagine for a moment, not HAVING to bring the MTS in all its 100lb + glory.
I actually stopped using even my powered QSC monitor onstage. I leave it at home now.

Ya I know what you are saying. 2 guitars, an amp (in an anvil case) , a 2 space rack, foot controller, duffle bag with assorted cables etc. 2 guitar stands, an amp stand, and I bring my own mic (a Sennheiser e609 so I don't need a mic stand) It is getting old lugging that stuff around but the tone I'm getting is hard to beat. Last night after service at our nightly prayer meeting we (the worship team) continued to play. I let go with a 3 minute solo that left me in tears. It was the most incredible thing I've ever played period. It was as if my guitar rig became a spiritual weapon annointed of God. After I was done I had to get off stage because I couldn't play anymore. A lot of people came up to me telling me it was incredible. I was inspired by the tone of my rig and God took it to another level. At this point I'm keeping things the way they are! I like this hybrid rack/amp setup. It sounds awesome!

It's kinda hard to argue with that...

Bah! No argument there or intended. :D
I'm just trying to prod another bro outside of their paradigm & comfort zone. It took a LOT of prodding for me, I know. I went kicking & screaming so to say.
I'd also iike to say that I still LOVE tube amps. I'm just getting such a good sound without them, and certainly more convenience without them; that I don't exactly miss them- and I'm one picky old buzzard. We've been schlepping this stuff for 3-4 decades so it's nice to have the liberty these alternatives afford. For me- I wasn't the least bit unhappy with the sound of my 3-amp rig I was using 18 mos ago. It was the best tone I'd ever had at that point. But, a half a ton of stage gear is no fun.... and in this way and age: totally un-necessary. Therefore, I started downsizing.
SO anyway- here we are to-day! :)
Arguably- today I have the best, clearest, best sitting-in-the-mix tone 'live' that I've ever had.
All from this crummy little box full of 1's and 0's.... BAH!
I say again: BAH!

Trust me, I could deal without the loading and unloading 6 times a week but my tone is the best and most versatile I have ever had. I just can't imagine getting as good of a tone with just the gsp1101. I'm gonna tweak this thing and see just how good I can get it to sound on it's own. I'm just not a believer in modelers.
