Dr. Gene Scott died yesterday from a stroke.

He was a mentor of sorts for me. Because of him, I learned how to really study my bible, and dig into the original language texts to find what exactly the author was trying to convey. He also taught me, that just because I became a Born Again Beleiver, doesnt mean I have to have a brainectomy, and stop using the brain that God gave me.

I know he was eccentric, sometimes offending, very often confrontational, not always in the right, and he didnt act as you would expect a televangelist to act. But, one thing he wasnt, was two faced (sweet in front of you, and the devil behind your back).

I could probably write several pages of dialogue about him, but I'm not going to bore you all with that.

All I gotta sy is, I'm gonna miss him, and glad I'll see him again one day!

Gotta love the mentors who led us! I remember a few key influences in the '90s who were mine. Guys who'd preached 50+ years and were, like Dr. Scott, passionate and fiery for Jesus.

Someday you may fill that role too. Keep the faith!

One of my Bible College profs used to hum a little chorus every now and then, "...I would be true for there are those who trust me..."

Be comforted Stephen... be the same kinda light. :angel

In spite of his confrontational nature, and other HUMAN trappings, (hello!?...just like the rest of us) I consider Dr. Scott to be one of the true sages of our time. Right up there with A.W. Tozer, but for completely different reasons; perhaps because he was a different part of the "body" so to speak.

I remember him ripping his congregation for coming into the service "late": (paraphrased)

"What is wrong with you people? Those of you coming into God's house late- isn't getting here on time more important than being on time for your JOB? You aren't showing God the respect He's due! I've been watching this happen for awhile now. If I have to, I'll lock the doors at the start of the service, and you people that don't think it's important enough to get here on time, always showing up late- can go home!"

WHEW!! He was incensed. You know on the surface, it sounded punitive and self-serving. But upon more careful consideration and reflection, he was 100% RIGHT.

Now he's another member of the "cloud of witnesses" in glory, beholding our Dear Lord.

Wish I was there with you, Dr. Scott.
