Hey, has anybody ever ran their acoustic with overdrive/crunch/distortion?

I saw a guy do it on TV once (I don't know who it was, I think he was from France), and it actually sounded really good. I was messing with mine today, and it sounded kinda cool with some nice crunch ... but I only have a cheapo amp and was playing at fairly low volumes. I'm not sure how it would sound in a live venue at higher vols.

It did seem that I'd have to eq the highs a little ... they seemed a tad harsh.

I crunch, wah and fuzz my acoustic all the time. You have to watch the high end, and attack tends to be a little slow, and I had to play with the effects modeller to get a decent sustain, but....it's doable, and since I'm introducing our church to that sound anyhow, most of them don't know what a real Strat, Gretch or Les Paul is supposed to sound like. :roll: I mostly use that guitar to your left there.

Phil Keaggy amazes me everytime I hear him do a solo show and I'd love to hear your creativity with the instrument.

Well, Phil Keaggy I'm not!! I can see what I can get from the church library of dinosaur tapes.

The thing you definitely have to do if you're messing with your acoustic sound is this: Wear headphones!! Since your acoustic is naturally louder than its noisy electric cousin, you're going to hear your acoustic sound mixed with the electric output. But the audience only hears the electric part. So while you're wailing away on it, thinking you're sounding truly awesome, they're kinda lookin' at each other doing this: :dunno: That's how I found out about the attack problem. Got some comments and listened to the tape. :hmm: :huh:

So make sure you know what they're hearing.

Brian;
I admit that I'm on the fence with this topic.
Just plugged in my Taylor 514 Ce with nothing but a tuner.

Wow.... forgot how clean/warm the sound is!!
