I just picked up an Ibanez AS83-VLS hollow/electric "for my birthday". All I can say is WOW. This is one sweet little guitar for the money. Plays very nice; superb tone; and BEAUTIFUL!

I never thought I would like a jazzbox - but I'm a convert, totally.

The marbling of the maple is extremely nice for the price. The abalone inlays are very colorful (not bland pearl-color).

I threw on some Snake Oil Rock Formulas and the tone just got even better.

Check one of these out gang - you won't be sorry. At $429, this might be a sleeper hit!

Yes, these are sweet guitars. I have the lower priced version of that model, the AS73 in blueburst. I swapped the pups for some alnico humbuckers and it give great 335 tone. The AS83 has better quality materials and is worth the extra cash.

I'm just following up on my wonderful "jazzbox"!

I love the full, fat tone I get from this guitar. It plays so smooth and has a very sweet voicing. I enjoy it every time I pick it up (it has to share time with my other guitar - which has changed frequently lately).

Now I have to balance my attention though - between a Parker P-38 and the AS83... they don't mind as long as I give them ample time to sing once in awhile!

You own just 2 guitars? How do you get by?

:ROFL

Seriously, do you have any recordings of that guitar to share? Does it sound like my AS73 on Lazy Train (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/pearlygatormusic.htm)?

I have several soundclips for the AS83 now... man I really like this guitar. Especially with the Snake Oil strings on it. It has such a nice voicing and playability.

Sounds are at:

I just got an ES-335 (been wanting one for most of my life). I have played kewlpack's AS83 before, but I did not want to be diswaded from my ES-335 mission.

So, Now I have the 335, I go over to kewlpack's house last night and compair guitars. The ES-335 has that famous and classic smooth voicing that we have come to expect. But I was knocked out by the low action, quality of construction, and the bitey edge that the AS83 had.

I don't regret getting my ES-335 one bit (after a few days of soul searching). But now I am interested in finding an AS73 in blueburst for a good price. Why? I don't really know. I just want all the time. But the AS series guitars seem to be a huge value for the money.

I'm a semi-hollow fan myself, and I own an '83 MIJ Ibanez AS-200. I've not found a better guitar of its type, and I've compared this to many others since I've owned it.
