Got a call last Thursday from the youth Pastor. He said he wanted me to play and would talk to me on Sunday.
So this past Sunday the youth Pastor handed me a CD and song list. March 23 he wants to have a night of music for the teens.
I played twice for the youth and went away with them this past summer to play on the retreat. They love it when I play because I can pretty much play any song they want and they get to hear the stuff they like.

This is the list:

Tonight - Jeremy Camp
Dare to move - Switchfoot
Lay down my Pride - Jeremy Camp
Getting to you - Reliant K
Take it all - Hillsong United
Your Grace is enough - Chris Tomlin
King of Majesty - Hillsong
From God above - Hillsong United
Kingdom Come - Hillsong United
Shine - Matt Redman
Rescue - Desperation Band
Jesus I surrender - Jeff Deyo
From the inside out - Hillsong United
Come to me rescue - Hillsong united

Been working hard all week. The bold ones I've played once and The ones in italics I've never heard before. So far I've got the seven of the ones I never heard figured out and I can play them all fine. Remembering them, now that pretty much needs a miracle.
I only have two practices.
I'm actually very excited because the teens are looking forward to it. They get so bored with humdrum music and it's hard enough to keep their attention.
If you all remember to mention this when you pray I will be thankful.

EDIT I'm not a noob any more. I'm a veteran now :yeah:

I know quite a bit of people here, but not them...Arlington is pretty big. I've live here about the last 16 years, but with 350,000 people in the city, its kind of hard to know them all :)

Figured I'd take a shot. It would be something though. I didn't win the lottery either. At least with the lottery you have a 50/50 chance of winning.

"Tell The World" is a little more upbeat with a killer bass guitar intro. Unfortunately, in our youth praise band, we don't HAVE a bass guitar, so I just have to power chord it out. Still sounds good though played with some heavy distortion. Did I mention that I love distortion?:)

Ooooo "Dare You to Move" - I love that song! We'd probably never do it at our church but a youth rally sounds like just the ticket. :hmm:

May the Lord Bless you guys in leading worship for the youth and ultimately closer to Christ! :yeah:

Well it's This Friday and I've got everything I need to do down.
Using my Quad X / TubeWorks power amp > a 4-12 cab loaded with Avatar Hellatones. Great sound & boy does it scream. The pastor wants it loud.Haven't played this loud in a long time. I'm loving it.
Bad news The Keyboard player & Bassist backed out. So it's me, the youth pastor on guitar and a drummer. One of the youth who just started learning bass is working hard to sit in & I've been helping him out. I went over the pastors house & made up some chunky parts for him to fill the bottom.Guess I'll just turn it up louder.

Well we did it. Musically it was hard. The Youth Pastor, who sang everything wasn't able to play in some songs so when it came for any solos it sounded naked. The teen who just started playing bass worked hard and was able to play a lot. He kept laying out on some parts but got back in. All in all it wasn't as bad as I figured it would be having only two practices. I could have done much better myself. Totally got lost on the last two songs.
On the spiritual side, which is all that really matters, it was great. Testimonies of suicidal teens who now have joy, depressed teens who are now doing well in school and back with friends, family problems being worked out, teens who just realized they were not serving the Lord and are now on fire and leading the others. One 12 year old, who always was in dance school, said the Lord told her to stop because he had something better for her. She obeyed after speaking to the Pastor. This happened about a year ago and now she's involved in stage.
Another wandered in and spoke of her sad family life. Father in & out of jail. No good direction, struggling to just survive it all. Not a good place. Lost track of her but last I saw she was in the middle of a circle of teens being prayed for.
At the end they rushed the alter seeking and praying.
Whole load of teens, in church, on a Friday night, Worshiping God.
Just brings tears to my eyes as I type.

That's awesome, man! Definitely gives you a sense of accomplishment knowing that the Lord chose YOU to help facilitate all that. That's gotta make ya feel special! And think about it....all those teens...on a FRIDAY NIGHT! In most places, you and I KNOW what most teens would be doing on a Friday night. Sounds like the Spirit was flowing and that there was a sense of "breaking" that will hopefully allow those teens to turn the corner and realize that although God never promised we wouldn't have struggles, but that he'd see us through to the other side if we're obedient. I, for one appreciate His work in you in that service...even though it may not have affected MY community, serving God and making a difference in ANY one person's life (let alone several) is something all of us Christians should appreciate. Rock on, bro!

"All things work together for the good"

Just think, a few willing souls, little practice, hearts focused, time right. God ready, and lives changed.
