does it really count if you can't take pictures to show it off?

You got an 80's uke??

The guitar's existence is purely theoretical until we have pics.

Is it just me or does it seem a bit silly to anyone else for a bass to have a whammy bar?

You need to get at minimum a 12 megapixel camera and set up some professional-style lighting to bring out the detail so we can inspect it.

it does seem a little useless to me right now. but i'll have to wait until i get it and actually play it and see what it can do before i make a final judgement about it. but lately i've been getting more into collecting instruments then accquiring them to play. i still play them all, don't misunderstand me. but i like to find and accquire rare stuff, especially carvin insturments. so far i've got a pink V220T, pink LB90, orange DC127M, and this V440T, plus a 1946 keisel amp. all my stuff is in playable condition, and it's not worth insane amounts of money so i'd have no problem wearing them out. i just like to have odd stuff hanging around to play.

Nothing wrong with that, brother matt. And a whammy bar on a bass is indeed rare and unique. I don't recall ever hearing of that before (which by itself doesn't really mean much since, although I've primarily played bass for 35 years of my life, I've never really been a gear fanatic). Getting past my first impression of it, I have to admit a certain curiosity at what kind of uses one could put it to, assuming the instrument stays in tune when the bar is used.

yeah, i'm kinda curious about how it will stay in tune too. no locking nut on it, and i don't think i've ever seen a locking nut for a bass. kahler is back in business now, maybe they're making one? if anything i can block the whammy and just use it as a regular bass. one concern i won't have with this like i do guitars is breaking strings: i'm always concerned that i'll be playing a guitar with a tremolo on it and break a string and it will go way out of tune. but if i break a string on bass i'm gonna have to examine my fingers to make sure they didn't turn into wire cutters.

well, it came in today. i've been working on it for at least an hour now. the pickup pole pieces were pretty rusty, along with some other miscellaneous hardware. finally got all that cleaned up, along with wiping down the whole body and fretboard, which had at least one layer of grime on it. it doesn't look bad now, just finished getting it restrung. played it a little bit and it hasn't really impressed me yet, although the strings may just need stretched a little more. i'll get back to it tommorrow and see how well i can divebomb on it.

2 things i still need to do: find a case for it and put straplocks on it. gonna cost a little money but it's nothing huge.

Musician's Friend has cheap cases - about $40 if you catch 'em on sale.
I've got two basses in them - and my son's Schecter lives in one too. Not as fancy or sturdy as more expensive cases, but plenty good enough for keeping it safe!

What kind of strings are you putting on it?

yeah, but to fit a guitar of this shape will cost a bit more since it's more of a specialty item.
the strings are some that i bought from carvin awhile ago. they've got the carvin name on the package but i believe they're made by GHS.

Heh  Yeah. They're generally made a little better than they used to be. I guess, if you really did some major slappin' and poppin', breakage is possible , but under normal playing they should be fine. Even piano strings used to break sometimes and they're not that much different than bass strings on the low end. My folks had a 1940s upright piano in the house back in the early '60s. I recall "the piano guy" coming to tune it many times and sometimes changing a string or two that had popped. I've personally only had one bass string ever break, but that was years ago and it wasn't of very good quality to begin with.

haven't played it much yet, was out jamming on guitar today. but i've had a few minutes to play with it and i like what i hear. it's got the deep tone like i have on my LB90, but it's still a little different somehow. still need more time to play it.
