This weekend, me and my new 72 Thinline RI are playing:
Lord, Reign in Me
Praise You With The Dance (Casting Crowns)
Indescribable
Agnus Dei
My Jesus, I Love Thee
Blessed Be Your Name
For Saturday night's service the Tele worked great. I was worried that it may not be clean enough or twang enough for the country sounding "Praise You With the dance" because it has humbuckers but it worked perfectly. I play "Blessed Be Your Name" quite crunchy and it worked out great.
Have a great Lord's Day!

.......it was way back this morning when I played, so my memory might be a little foggy. :crazy
You Remain
Your Love is Amazing
Teach me Thy Way oh Lord (Psalm 86:11-12)
All who are thirsty
and a new one my Praise Team leader wrote: Waiting for You, My Lord!
At practice today, we worked on the new song (mainly for the vocalist and a new bassist. And tried out a new song called "Unashamed Love" by Lamant Hiebert. We kinda "beefed" it up a bit (cant help it: to much of a blues rocker in me! ).

We rehearse Sunday's music (and find out what it is) an hour and a half before the service: practise a half hour then break for Bible Study, then review about 15 minutes before the service.
It's always a mess; we always pray; God always pulls us through!

I think this is one of those threads that might never stop, I hope.
We will pick out Chorus songs before Service, Sunday afternoon at practice.
We are just starting a band, first practice was this past Tuesday, pray for us. It's myself on lead vocals and guitar, and three teenage boys, one on bass (my oldest son), one on lead guitar, and one on drums. Practice went pretty good.
We meet again Sunday afternoon before Service to go through it "one more time".
The "band" will do "Not to us" (Redman and Tomlin).
Plan to close the Service with "Take my life" (3rd Day)
Wally

We most always have our songs picked by Wed. when we practice. This Sunday will be:
Praise You With The Dance
Psalm 130 (From Depths Of Woe) - modern arrangement from RUF
Glory Be To God On High - a "Gloria Patri" that is sang most every week
Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone? - hymn
Cares Chorus - offertory
Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken - modern arrangement from RUF

:-) No, we're small time - just electric piano, guitar and a vocalist. The pianist can play the solo but we haven't had enough time to practice the song w/ the solo worked in, so for now we are just going through the song twice and skipping the solo.
I saw that it was on your list last week - how are you doing it? If you include the solo, what are you doing on guitar during that part?

Being a small congregation we don't use drums. Every week we have keys and guitar, and then one of three pianists will rotate in. I build the set list around the message and the particular skills of the pianists.
So, yesterday we played
He is Lord
Crown Him With Many Crowns
Let the Heavens Be Glad
Blessed Be the Name
Jesus, What a Wonder You Are
More Precious than Silver
Blessed Be the Lord God Almighty
Next week we'll probably ratchet the volume up a notch or two.

Ever finish a service feeling like you just can't wait until next week?
Yes! I've been doin' this for years and still feel invigorated and recharged after every service. I usually can't relate when some folks tell me they are just burnt out and tired after worship. Man, heaven is just gonna wear them out!

I was planning to preach on how God has great plans for us, paying no attention to our past sins or successes. So the music was...
Rock of Ages
Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners
Bless His Holy Name (andre)
Faithful (orginal)
Come and Sing Praises
.....
The Nail Scarred Hand
Power in the Blood (we play it like Dylan's "Saved" )
When we got to the "sharing" in our service, it seemed EVERYONE wanted to give testimony about how good God is. Everyone had a word of praise. So when they finished worshipping Him at 10:45 I said, "I guess we're going to have a short sermon!" and shared an overview and gave a blessing.
Then we sang the last two songs, reprised the new one (Faithful) and all left rejoicing. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.
OH! And three of us are going to Africa in June for a two-week evangelistic trip. We found out Sunday that all the funds have been given for two of us, and the third is almost there. Praise the Lord!

The Potter's Hand

Right at the end of the sermon, during The Potter's Hand, we're gonna have a dude throwing a pot on a potter's wheel under a spotlight on the stage, illustrating our Pastor's message.
We did The Heart of Worship at our men's retreat also last weekend. That song always gets to me.

The "Step By Step" we do has 12 lines. I don't know whether it has other verses, but it sounds like a verse and two choruses, sorta.
This particular weekend I'm sittin' in at a church where our former Pastor is Interim Pastor (and he's doing the music). That's why I know the set list in advance. Usually at my regular church I find out when I show up.
His youngest is flying up from MIT in Hollywood, to play bass.
It's a priviledge to play with these guys. We've had a lot of fun over the years. Unfortunately his oldest son (drums) was killed a couple years ago in a traffic accident.
It's going to be hard in that respect. I miss Jeff. He was 29, and his wife delivered a son one month after he was killed. Tragic, but God is still in control, no matter what.
Someday the answers will be there, but we'll all be so blown away by heaven I doubt I'll remember the questions.

We do "The Beauty of Simplicity". We use just my lone acoustic, course that's all we use on any of our P&W stuff. I love "The Way", tried to work something out on that, not there yet. I realy like Telecast, I read the Bio on the lead guy. Pretty good story. The CD's he use to record, before the Lord got hold of him, needed warning stickers on them! I'm not kidding, warning stickers due to the launguage used.
To God be the Glory.

The Way sounds really good w/ just an acoustic guitar. My wife and I practiced it that way some, but I rarely play my acoustic in the service anymore (can't hear myself & I'm too used to my Tele). We were able to work it up pretty quickly by ourselves using the chords from Telecast's web site, but the last line of the chorus was a stumbling block for a few minutes. We did it Sunday morning w/ piano & Tele and two singers. The last line of the chorus was a problem again and we changed the B/C chord (which I was just playing as a B) to a G. The pianist is the musician in the band and he thought that sounded better.

Come Into His Presence (unaccompanied - choir)
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
Ride On, King Jesus (choir)
Blessed be the Lord God Almighty
Great is the Lord
How Firm a Foundation
My Faith Has Found a Resting Place (solo)
Just As I Am
O Worship the King (instrumenetal - orchestra)
As you can see, we're pretty traditional with some contemporary - some weeks more than others! Great message on Psalm 19 and the sufficiency of God's Word, too.

Ok. For tomorrow we have the following set planned:
Everyday
For All You've Done
Blessed Be Your Name
Made Me Glad
I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
Yes, boys and girls, it's BACK TO HILLSONG (with one exception...yes, we do the HS version of I Could Sing...); the good news is that only one of these tunes is played in the key of B.
*end rant*
I still count it a privilege to be able to serve in this capacity. The fact that God can use ME and all of my flaws is truly amazing.
Wednesday, when I lead, we will play:
For All You've Done
Sing (Your Love)
Where the Love Lasts Forever
I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
No, brothers, that's not hypocrisy. It's just that the pastor's preference is that we choose songs from a selected song list...and most of the tunes are from Hillsong. :dunno and it's my job to submit. I anticipate a great move of God in our worship, and I'm rarely disappointed :-)

This week is our commissioning service for our Congo Mission Team, so we're combining our two congregations (English and Spanish). That's always fun. Well, sometimes it's fun and sometimes its challenging... since most of us don't speak Spanish, and most of the other congregation has a minor grasp of English.

This weekend:
Your Love is Beautiful
God is Great
We Worship You
You Are My World
Takin' It To The Streets
Undignified
Yes, that's an old Doobie Bros. tune in there. We rewrote the verses to be much more appropriate, but the chorus (Takin' it to the streets) was so appropriate to the weekend, and fits our congregation so well that we went for it.
Undignified was the second time we've done that song in Church. It's a great one to pogo to. \:D/

This weekend is our annual Island Weekend! Once a year we deck the place out in Palms, Surfboards, and stuff like that. We pass out leis, get to wear shorts and sunglasses. We play some surf tunes, and some latin stuff, and just generally party and dance like David before the Lord!
Opener: Hawaii Five-O (instrumental)
Surfin' USA (during this one we throw out beach balls to the congregation and they swat them around the Celebration Center)
How Good and Pleasant
Praise You with the Dance (with the celtic instrumental section, afterwards we reminded the congregation that Ireland could be considered an island)
I'm Not Ashamed (fast latin groove)
We Fall Down (our own reggae version)
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding)
Message: this is our second week in a study of Proverbs.
Closing song: Mourning Into Dancing
Definitely not your typical church service! But we have lots of now devoted followers of Christ whose first entrance through church doors was on our Island Weekend, mon. For instance, our percussion player this weekend first came to Dayspring on Island Weekend 5 years ago. He decided this Jesus stuff might not be too bad, and the rest is his story. This has become one of those weekends that a lot of our attenders have felt very free to invite non-churched friends to the service.
