We have three services each week. One on Saturday evening, two on Sunday morning. First service on Sunday started fine.

We did 2 songs, then paused for a baptism. I unplugged the cable from my SG and walked to the side of the platform (we don't call it a stage 'cuz it's a church) so folks in the congregation (it's not an audience 'cuz it's a church) could see better. Afterwards, I walked back plugged in the guitar to start "Come, Now Is The Time To Worship" with the drummer. Nothing. GASP! :shock:

Worship pastor turns to the acoustic guitarist and signals him to start the song.

I'm on my knees troubleshooting where my signal loss is. I finally unplug everything going to the input and the effects loop and plug direct into the amp. I switched to the distortion channel and had signal. WHEW!

Pastor turns to me with a look of anguish, just as the key change with guitar solo comes up. I give him a "thumbs up" as I go for the solo, just in the nick of time.

I HATE IT WHEN IT THAT HAPPENS!

After service, I found a patch cable from the output of my delay pedal to the input of my tuner backed out. I blamed it of the poor stage lighting. At least it was not my most embarrassing moment while playing.

Anyone else got one?

How about the time when the webmaster changed my signature?

Forgetting lyrics to songs I wrote ranks right up there with my worst nightmares. I've done it enough to laugh it off now, but it's a little like stepping into an open elevator shaft! :roll:

Haven't been "performing" for long (since last May), but at our Church Family Retreat they gave me a two day notice to learn 15-20 songs (Reverbbb was VERY supportive).

They didn't have any time for me to actually practice with the band except for a single, new song (This Is How We Overcome)!

So away we go - it's actually coming together pretty well...until they change keys! The music didn't indicate a key change - so I kept wailing away on the acoustic for about a measure (doh). Of course, it sounded all whacked out until I would fade out and let Reverbbb do what he does so well.

We had keyboards and like 10 vocalists (well, lots of them) so it wasn't a big deal...I don't think. But boy was I feeling awkward at those points. Note to self: always, always, always practice with the band in case there are key changes not in the music!

Eeeeek! :shock: :shock:

I'm sure there are worse things ahead, but that was embarrassing at the time - even though Jesus was honored nonetheless. :D

Blessings.

.... like this one gig. I was hired as a drummer at a P&W convention. The dude who did the stage setup (and yes it was a stage, not a platform) insisted that we all had our own podiums in different heights. So I got a podium to rig my kit on about 3 feet over the stage deck. It all was fine until we were going to pause a seminar for P&W leaders. I kinda forgot I was 3 feet above the floor when I turn my drum throne around and get up…….. only to to kinda suddenly remember it was 3 feet down. With 1200 P&W people in the house it was a rather embarrassing experience. :D :x :roll: :lol: :idea: :oops: :oops: :oops:

There's one song we play that starts out with this little melodic bass figure. (You can hear it, "The Wonderful Cross", at www.craiglang.net ). Our bass player apparently lost all recollection of the song, onstage. He couldn't find the right notes, but instead found those that could not possibly have been more wrong. The rest of us were trying to figure out how to either start the song, or stop him, neither of which seemed to be happening. It was pretty humiliating. I felt bad for the guy.He just stood there, trying to find it. It kept eluding him.

Mike- tell him "it's in 'D'..it's in 'D'!!"

We did that song one Sunday true to the recent release...what a gas that was.

A very cool take on a great Hymn!

Just last Sunday, we started the song "Blessed be Your Name". I start it out: 2 bars, just my guitar, next two bars the vocalist jumps in. On the 5th bar, every one jumps in with us. One problem: The drummers monitor has gone down, and he cant hear me, so he times it by watchin me, and comes in on time, but he goes Speedy Gonzales on us all! I mean double time! he had me in a full sweat just tryin to keep up, and all the vocalists were totally winded!

Isn't that the only note in the song (almost) :lol:

~~~~~~~~
At our retreat about a month ago, we had a guest singer. I forget the song at this moment, but I started the song out on the electric and was getting into the groove when all of the sudden, the singer and all the backups started singing the next song in the set. It was basically the same rhythm but some twists in the changes. By the time I realized what they had done, the changes were upon me. I skidded but did not crash. I looked up at the keyboardist and she was shaking her head. I looked at the overhead screen and the words to the later song were being shown. I was totally (thankfully privately) embarrassed. For the whole song, I thought that I had started the wrong song. I could not get my groove on the song that we were playing, even though it was one that I liked a lot.
It turns out, that the person showing the overhead had put the wrong words up on the screen. Instead of leader following through with the song that I had started, he followed the error of the overhead.
That was probably not the 'most' embarrassing, but it was a recent embarrassment. I'm sure kewlpack remembers, since he has already eluded to his embarrassment of the same day.
Hehehe... Ya, seemed like we had some weird mojo that day. Almost par for the course on those days it seems, huh? ;)
I tried that. That was the (only) note that he nailed. The problem is that he knows positions, but not keys. He has since been replaced. We've also altered our arrangement of the song a bit, so that now I carry the melodic figure in dropped D tuning while the bass player carries the low end. It works much better that way.
Worst one for me we were doing a set with the old Metal band I was in and had three set lists across the stage and somehow in the third slot of the set THREE DIFFERENT songs :roll: !! The drummer counts off and bass player and drummer go one way I go another and the keybordist another we all turn around and stop playing while staring at each other in horror :shock: in this sudden TRAIN WRECK :x of sound then burst out laughing.There was no covering that one the crowd got a good laugh at our expense we recovered and finished the set.
Well, guys, today was a new low for me.
We had a gig in the Detroit area, a little over 2 hours south of here. Showtime was 1 p.m. We left here about 9:30 a.m. I had had 2 large cups of coffee and, as one might guess, my bladder became quite active. We were near Detroit Metro Airport when it got to the point that I needed a restroom. Craig, our singer, kept driving, usually spotting a McDonald's or something just as we drove past it. Finally, he took an exit. I saw an industrial park with some trees nearby, so I told him to pull into the parking lot and I'd find a spot. He pulled onto a small side street and then onto the shoulder, near some trees. The only problem was that there was a house right across the street. In my modesty I tried to get behind some trees, lest I become the afternoon's entertainment for the occupants of the house. There was a fence, so I tried to scale it. (At this point, finding another spot was no longer an option.) I found a spot of the fence that was somewhat trampled. I placed my right foot on it and proceeded to lift my left leg over. At this point, my left pantleg caught on a piece of the fence, while my right foot slipped off from the fence. I heard my pants rip, in a very big way. As I fell, my glasses fell off my face. I got up and proceeded to search for my erstwhile spectacles, only to notice that my left leg was bleeding. Soon, my pants were soaked (with blood!), my sock was soaked, and there was blood in the snow. I finally managed to take care of the business at hand, then I found my glasses. Craig and Ryan, our bass player, saw me searching for my glasses and came to help, and of course immediately saw the blood. I made my way to Craig's S.U.V., and immediately started getting dizzy. I remember telling Craig and Ryan that I was about to pass out, and then I promptly did. They were praying pretty fervently. When I regained consciousness, we decided that it would be best for me to seek medical attention. Needless to say, we didn't make it to the gig on time. Our other guitarist and drummer made it on time, and we got there about an hour and a half late. On the up side, it looks as though we didn't miss much. The event we were to play for was a 2 day praise festival, with 2 stages an about 40 bands. There were about 10 people in the gym where we were supposed to play, most of them event staff.
Needless to say, it's been an interesting day. At least I got to spend it with friends.
That happened to me too,twice on the same song at a service...fortunately(praise God) I had grabbed the lyrics off the kitchen table on the way to church,or I would have had to stop after two false starts.I pulled the crumpled piece of paper from my back pocket and red-faced it through the tune. :oops:
