Many years ago I met one of the good ole session musicians who has been around for ages. You know the kind who has played on more live gigs and records than they can count. We were talking about a "new" guy and the oldtimer leaned back and said, You know, in my opinion this guy plays rather than well. I just loved the expression. rather than well. So the Q is, do YOU play rather than well :D

That IS a great expression. I'll have to use it sometime.

However, you can't posibly expect anyone to answer this poll correctly? I would answer 'rather' for myself, though some folks would say I play well. But it is purely a mtter of pespective. I feel that folks that play well are unquestionably good, and they know it. I play OK, but always question my tallent.

So, how did you answer? (I haven't seen the poll results to know).

Hmmmm, You didnt list "sloppy", or "rather sloppy". Either one would fit my style perfectly!

Mediocrity

Not a bad word. It just means the middle of something. I know, I have heard the sermons that we should not be mediocre in Christ. I do agree. But the fact is, it seems that everything else in my life is just mediocre.

A friend of mine who I consider to be a know it all, said to me once "you seem to know a little bit about everything". What is weird, is that for once, I could tell that he had just made a sincere statement. That got me to thinking, I must come off to a lot of people that I am some sort of smart-alic know-it-all. The funny thing is, I am a complex person. Some parts of me feel conceded while other parts feel inferior.

This same friend also said once, "Roger, you might actually get real good at something if you would just stick with one instrument".

Some folks just don't understand why I enjoy being mediocre I guess.

Like Keith Richards? Sometimes well, sometimes rather.

I'd like to say that I play well....I'd be lying though.
