Now we can talk about the CD's that inspire us, and lift our spirits in Praise to Him! Every type of Gospel, CCM, Hymnal, Christian Rock, Christain Folk, Christian Country, etc., is to be explored here. So what's in your CD Player?

webmaster edit:

You may have noticed that I took out, "Lets hear it!: Whats in your CD Player". Traffic there was slow, and I felt the need for a little gardening of the website.

I didnt want to loose the post's though, so I moved em here. stephen

Right now, two CD's are spinning in my CD Player:

1) Jeremy Camp: Stay

2) Third Day: Offerings II

Gotta say, these two get a lot of play time, cause I just get caught up Praising Jesus every time I hear em!

Plus, they both give me lots of ideas for orchestrating our songs!

Casting Crowns. Their songs have been very inspiring. "Who Am I' helped me out of a very troubling time in early July. {2 thumbs up}

Since my home CD player holds 51 CD and I don't have a CD player in my truck, this is a difficult question for me to answer. I do have an iPOD though. It has about 500 songs loaded so far. I don't have any Jeremy Camp, but I have Third Day Offerings II and Casting Crowns loaded. I like a lot of Chris Tomlin stuff, both solo and Passion stuff.

As far as Casting Crowns, we played "Who Am I" the first time this past Sunday. Everything was going good until we hit the bridge part with the orchestra. We don't have an orchestra, there were only 4 musicians. That was not the problem. The problem is the VERY strange time signatures. It goes from 4/5 to 4/4 to 4/5 and 3/4 all in a matter of 8 measures. The only way to pull it off effectively is to "feel" the music. Well, we all "felt" lost. I just leaped into that part a few beats early and the keyboardist had a complete train wreck. I continued to play with the drums and the bass player was trying to understand where we were. Finally, we got back to the pause where the singer comes in.

We are going to be bold and try it again this week. Hopefully, we will all be a little more accurate when we hit that part.

Reverbbb, i'm putting off "Who Am I" for a couple of weeks for the very same reason-- i love the song, but the time sigs. in the bridge scare me to death.

Right now, i'm listening to Tommy Walker's "Make it Glorious" and the new Chris Tomlin CD.

I'm not familiar with Tommy Walker. But Chris Tomlin is just awesome. I suppose that you knew that he is from Grand Saline and was one of the main voices in Passion.

I missed this post about "Who Am I" - we worked that one up a couple of weeks ago and did it the past 2 Sundays.....without the bridge/strings of course   We just made it a standard praise song, verse chorus verse chorus. Great song, went over well.

As for what I've been listening too - just dusted off Rich Mullins "Jesus Record" this week; forgot how much I liked it. I've also been listening to Third Days "Wire" a lot, as well as Alter Bridge's debut and Mark Knopfler's latest.

We do a bunch of Tommy Walker songs-- 'That's Why We Praise Him, 'He Knows My Name,' 'Only a God Like You,' 'Never Gonna Stop' are all mainstays in our repertoire.

Listening again to 'Who Am I' we may just end up dropping that whole bridge, too-- getting all my band to count together might be asking too much!

Hmmm been listening to a lot of FFH and SCC simply because I'm learning some of the material.

Lots of new recordings out too:
Point of Grace
Rachel Lampa
Avalon
Steven Curtis Chapman
FFH
Third Day
Stacie Orrico (not so new now)
Jaci Velasquez
Chris Rice (just gettin' into all of his stuff)
Casting Crowns (not so new now)
...(sigh, I miss ole' Rich Mullins)

Lots of NEW good stuff out right now. Much to worship with.

Keep the faith!

Thanks. I have heard (and played) 'That's Why We Praise Him'.

I wanted to drop the bridge in 'Who Am I' too, but I had never pushed the suggestion with our keyboardist, because she likes to read the music verbatum unless she has time to plan and adjust. The last time we did it (now only twice), we were able to get the timing better, but we were noticble weak and unsure during the bridge.

You might consider teaming up with kewlpack, our other guitarist friend (ML) and myself on Friday nights. ML has been hosting a loose (very loose) jam at his house in Rowlett. ML has a grand piano and a couple of amps thrown around. The kids fellowship and the wives chat and are beginning to work on crafts. Sunday evenings, ML is also hosting a Bible study for families. What a concept. Instead of segmenting into age or gender groups, we all study together. I am fairly sure that I have his permission to invite you if you would like to come to either or both.

I will think about the Friday night thing. At those kind of deals, i'm a lot more of a piano player than guitarist (i've played guitar for 30 years, but still think in a straight line) even though i'm the acoustic guitarist at church.

Sunday nights i'm either playing or hosting a prayer group at our house.

I'll let you hear some of the other Tommy Walker songs sometime. Some really good stuff.

This Friday, ML is busy. So maybe some other time, or a different venue (like our church or my house?). As far as the keyboards, I am like you on guitar, I think in a straight line (if I am understanding what you mean). I am not so good at the keyboards, but I can usually just pick up and jam with nearly any song that has a groove or beat. I have been focusing on guitar intensely for the past two years it seems. Perhaps we can learn from each other. Just let me know when you want to get together.

(Sorry for the thread hijack WMPC - I figured we could keep this discussion public for the sake of making this forum very casual).

Welp, let me say I'm a geezer, first:

"I Will Go On," by Gloria Gaither, got me over a hump once when I was really down.

I'm a geezer too, but I'm really loving Building 429's latest. There's a song on it called "No One Else Knows" that's just awesome. They played here at my church last month along with Jeremy Camp and Adam Watts and I got to be the driver for the bands. What great bunch of guys! All very Godly young men.

Really starting to like Kutless as an alternative heavy kinda groove thing. I don't like the silly screaming they do on some tracks though.

Blessings,

Cool!
They came here and played "Glory Defined." Great concert, along with Audio Andrenyline.

Midland, Michigan, huh?
I worked in Bay City once. There were a lot of great bar bands around there in the early '70's.

Phil Keaggy with the London Festival Orchestra------"Majesty and Wonder"(instrumental Christmas)

In that case, you may also like "Christmas at my house" by Larry Carlton. It's a little different flavor, but IMO he's one of the few players who can hold a candle to Keaggy. It's kinda light jazz, sometimes almost bordering on elevator music, but there's some incredibly tasty playing on it.

I'm a big Carlton fan---he has one of the sweetest touches out there, with great note choice and placement.I haven't heard the particular album you mentioned, but thanks for the heads up,I'll check it out!
