I know that we have all "learned" about the Pilgrims, and how it is there peaceful co-habitation with the Indians, or Native Americans, that started the Thanksksgiving day celebration, Or did it?
If you havent seen this before, check out the following proclomation from President Abraham Lincoln, in 1863 ((Lincoln papers, volume II, pages 520-521):
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
Abraham Lincoln
So much for the pilgrims, huh? It makes me wonder: seeing this is such a blatant, "Lets stop, and remember what all God has done for us!", type of proclomation, do any of you think (as I do), that the "Get God out of our country/government" fanatics, have diluted this Thanksgiving for what God has done for us, to a mere "lets all get along" pigfest? I'd apreaciate your thoughts on this.
On this day of "Thanksgiving", I want to express my thankfullness to The Creator, for placing such a wonderful foundation, of Godly, and Faithful men, to help guide this country. We have had good presidents, and we have had bad presidents, just as Isreal has had good kings, and bad kings.
I thank you Lord, that at present, we set under a President that gives You the Glory, and acknowledges, that he by his own devices, would just mess everything up, and he rely's upon Your Providence in his life! When he was asked, who is the most influential person in your life, unashamed he boldly said, "Jesus Christ, because he changed my life!" He is a man that prays to You, even though the whole world ridicules him, for his leanig on You, rather than relying on himself. May You Bless this country during his service as President.
I am thankful for all the men and women, that defend this country, and our safety, whether in military, law enforcement, or rescue, they have decided to make a differnce, and I am grateful. Bless them Lord.
I am thankful for those that boldly preach the Word of God, to a dying, and lost world. Some even giving their lives. I am also thankful for the brothers and sisters, that refuse to betray You, even when faced with ridicule, punishment, torture, and even death.
And Lord, I am so thankful for You! Alone I am but a dead man, living a dead existance, but in You, I am alive, and I live! And I live for You! All Thanks, Glory, and Praise, go toYou oh Beautiful One! My hearts desire! My King! My Saviour!
To my brothers and sisters here, that may not be American citizens, I do include you in this true celebration of thankfullness to our Creator, I'm sure, President Lincoln would love your participation too!

Thanks for posting this, and the education!
We already prayed before eating, but maybe I can read this to our guests before we all pass out from turkey.

There was also movements & proclamations by past US leaders before Lincoln (Washington for one, IIRC), not to mention original intent by the 3rd yr settlers of Plymouth.
YESSS! Let the truth be boldly proclaimed!
