hey, im 15, and play guitar for worship at my church. I use a washburn d-10sce with a few mods. I was wondering what kind of guitars you guys use to lead or play in worship? I know it really doesn't matter, but i haven't seen alot of new topics on the forum for a while.

I mostly use my Guild acoustic these days. I have a Fishman thinline undersaddle pup with inline pre-amp installed. It was my high school graduation gift from my parents back in 1977. It sound nice but a little boomy if I'm not carefull with the external EQ. The Fishman controls feedback far better than a mic.
For electrics, I rotate through my collect just to give them some usage time. I seem to favor Telecasters and my ES-335 for P&W usage. I often play them in the middle selector position to give it a woodier and more mellow sound. But every now and then, I grab a Les Paul and let 'er rip. My Strat does not get mch church use due to it's really bluesy and extremely woody tone. I used to use my PRS a lot, but it lacks fullness since it is an older ('92) Custom with extremely hot pups (17K each). But it will squeeze out some screaming licks on command - with the right amp.

Until recently I was playing my Gibson CS 336 a lot but lately I've been favoring my heavily modded CIJ Strats. I put the '54 style p'ups from the Custom Shop & they just ring like a bell. This Saturday I'll be going back to the 336, though.

My Number 1, a "partscaster" tele, that started life as a Squier Affinity Special (the butterscotch, black pickgaurd, budget priced, 52RI Wannabe). Actually as is, its not a bad guitar at all, and I still recomend them.
My Number 1 has 1/4 pounders loaded in both neck and bridge, and I play it through an Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer, a Boss Super Chorus, an Ibanez CF7 Flanger, and they all feed into my Pignose G40V tube amp, which is loaded with NOS tubes.
I'd like to eventually get another guitar (or 2, 3, ....maybe 4. I could even tolerate 5 or 6. I wouldnt say no to 7, ......), and set it up in Eb tuning, so when we do praise and worship songs capo'd on the first frett, I can swap guitars, and let those open strings ring out! I dont mind playing a guitar that is capo'd, but to my ears, its choked off sounding, and the open strings loose that chime and resonance I so love.
So thats my rig, and my wish list!

Lately, my main worship guitar has been a 72 Tele Thinline reissue. It will do Fender clean and twang even with the humbuckers. I need humbuckers because of the bad electrical and dimmers at my church.

When I'm playing acoustic, it's my Taylor 312ce. When I'm playing electric, it's either my '91 Les Paul Studio or the other guitar player's Buddy Guy Strat.

I usually play my Strat or my L6-S. I recently aquired a Reverend Slingshot Custom in hopes that I may be able to get both tone types in one guitar, we'll see. Some say it's do-able.
Whatever I play, I run into a Franklin modded SD-1. That is the sweetest OD pedal, no matter how you set it up it sounds good!
Hey Mr. 336, have you got a good line on the CIJ Strats?

Usually a Washburn AE10, a guitar with good tone, a pretty nice neck, and a generous cutaway for those moments I've GOT to go up high. Occasionally I'll break out the tele, but our church is a little small for major amplification.

Over the 30+ years I've been active in churches, I've mostly played bass. Many various brands and models, including Hoffner (many, many years ago), Yamaha (very high end - I don't recall the model) and Fender P. I also played acoustic - 6 and 12-string - way back in the '70s in a folk band based out of a Roman Catholic church, then later in another church. I played a Tele during worship services at one point, too. Amps have varied depending on what's been available, and sometimes direct to a console. God has provided.

I've used anything and everything at one time or another in church, but currently using a '05 Fender American Series hardtail Strat for everything I do. Even Jazz jobs.
I've tried to "go acoustic" many times, but it's just easier to get a usable sound for me -quickly- with an electric.

Hey Mr. 336, have you got a good line on the CIJ Strats?
I used to poke around eBay looking for MIJ & CIJ Strat RIs, but they always ended up going for more than I wanted to pay. So I read on thefenderforum.com that guys were ordering guitars straight from Japan through Ishibashi Music. I checked them out & they are extremely reasonable even w/all the shipping costs. Check out their "U-Box" page & you'll see some KILLER deals on that kind of stuff. The page is going to be all in japanese, but if you poke around you'll figure out how to use the search function. Just enter either ST62 or ST57 & you'll see more Strats than you need to!LOL
I've purchased two so far & have been very happy. If you end up wanting to purchase one email them w/"ATTN: Hiroaki" in the subject line & you'll get a quick reply. I couldn't read japanese so I basically cut&pasted the entire page w/the guitar I liked & said "I WANT THIS ONE". Hiroaki understood.

Ovation 1861 Balladeer when on guitar, Fender Jazz for bass, Conn 8D French Horn (OK, not a guitar, but one of my 'regular' instruments for church!)
I got the Ovation because I was afraid to add a pickup to my Alvarez Yairi - it sounds great plugged in to the board and gets a lot of use from several guitarists at church.

Lately, my go-to guitar for worship has been my Tele, assembled from parts a few years ago. Her name is Ashley, she's a one-piece swamp ash body bolted to a Warmoth neck with Sperzel tuners, and equipped with a 4-way switch hooked up to a set of Kinman Av-n 60's pickups.

Mega-dittos! I've tried so many solutions to that problem at our house, I can't even recall them all, but about two weeks ago, I finally hit on a solution. I used to run a power cord from the back wall out to my stuff and plug in my amp and effects into that, and then used ground lifts all over the place trying to avoid the ground loops that occurred. Then I ran a separate power cord for my amp alone to the back wall, and ran my effects from a separate one plugged into a different outlet. Wonderous, Marvelous, at last! No AC hum! I've been delivered.
So far, though, I've only tried my Kinman noiseless pups through the system, but even they used to hum something fierce.

I do love the necks on my Carvins and did many thousands of dollars of buisness with them over the last 15 years . Unfortunately they have seriously shafted me on my last few orders and I have taken a ciberspace beating from a couple of the Carvin Mods over the last year or so. Frankly some of the ciber attacks I have suffered as a result have come close to being criminal ( actually some WERE criminal I just can not prove where they came from ) and the company will take no action. I demanded one mod in particular be removed from the Carvin BBS and as a result they banned me for life from the board. As a result I will no longer do buisness with Carvin. Sadly, the baptismal is on the rear of our stage, directly behind the instruments. It has electric heater elements and an electric pump. There is also a thermostat for the multi-ton airconditioning system on the stage. It's a musicians worst nightmare with the dimmers generating line noise. So, the noise problem is both a noisy line and indirectly radiated EMF junk. I miss playing my Strat. We have hope. There are no hum problems in heaven...

Just a thought: there are some "clean" power supplies on the market, designed to eliminate this sort of thing. I think Voodoo Labs makes one. Or, you can plug into a small UPS, which should also eliminate most of the rf trash......

Good thought, Stephen. UPS units aren't really designed for guitar amps, though.
Have any of you guys tried using a power conditioner, such as those made by Furman? A good one should not only clean up the AC but also protect your amps and so forth from voltage spikes, etc. They're a good investment. They run anywhere from about $40 to over $200.

Sorry, I haven't recorded with it yet. Taylor's website has some video feeds that you could listen to. The T5 doesn't replace your other guitars, but I was really surprised with the new tones I was able to get. Also, this guitar really reflects well, the character of any amp it is played thru. I've played it thru Mesa's, Fenders, Line 6, and of course Vox. I sold a ton of gear/guitars to get one. Re: playing thru amp modelers, I've had to work a little harder... based upon the guitar that I'm using. BTW, read your Holy Spirit Worship Post today, good takes!

Thanks, and I will look for some vids from Taylor. I have played a few T5s, only the acoustic end though, and while the ES system does me no good compared to the earlier Fishman setups, I thought it was a wonderful stage acoustic concept after years of playing my Jumbo. It has my idea of a perfect neck for electric too. Sure wish I had the scratch to buy one! I don’t think that it will ever replace the big box acoustic, but it reminds me of the Guild Songbird guitars that I owned a few of back in the day. I eventually settled on the Guild F4CE just prior to my discovery of Taylor. I went from an ultimate stage guitar to a mondo Jumbo all because of tone. Go figure! :crazy

I'm often the only guitarist in the band, so I'm called on to cover a lot of parts. I built the guitar I use now, but it's basically a custom Strat. It had killer vintage pickups in it, but since our sanctuary was obviously designed with maximum buzz in mind (incandescent lighting on stage, ALL on dimmers, full fluorescent lighting in the main area, ground loops with ground loops...) I've had to install Lace Sensors.
I've add Graphtech Ghost saddles, with preamp, to get an acoustic sound at the flick of a switch. The only downside is everyone gets used to me playing about anything, so they expect it - all at once!
("Do you SEE a wah-wah pedal on the floor in front of me?!!! )
I've eventually purchased a Boss GT-8, which after the immense learning curve, I've managed to be able to give them about whatever they want.
Although the sound man usually turns the electric instruments off in the house, anyway... :-s Oh, well, God hears me!
