I ran across some info about these today. They're a relatively new brand. Unique. Fanned frets. A couple of things I'm reading, on forums devoted to bass, is that it's a very ergonomic design and that the design facilitates the strings actually being in tune all the way up the neck. Leland Sklar endorses them.

These look real nice. Especially the expensive $3000+ "Prima" model.

Must.... control... GAS.....

This is the "Super J" model:

Did you see these at NAMM, Stephen?

that looks neet...I wonder how it plays...
I mean the fanned frets, it looks like it would take a minute or two to adjust...
But I'd like to try one

TB Player at my church has a Dingwal 6 string. It took like 6 months to get it because it is meticulously handcrafted. They are AMAZING basses. The fan frets did not take long to get used to.

I hear that Dingwall recently started making guitars, too.

No I didnt. I have to check the directory and see if they were in attendance.

Yup, I'd expect to wait a while if I could order one, PG.

I'd like to try one, too, MadHatter. This isn't something that a place like Guitar Center carries, though. (At least not yet.)

On further reading, I've found that the Super J (the "low end" of the line) is the one that's listed at just over $3000. That puts ALL of them well out of my budget range.

Stephen, they were at NAMM. They've got some pictures of Leland Sklar talking with the reps over on the Dingwall forums:

I had the pleasure of playing a Dingwall Afterburner I think its called. I was at a local guy's house trying out a Lakland and he insisted I try the Dingwall. Very strange to look at but very cool to play. Way out of my price range so I'll stick to the lower end stuff. Incredible quality and tone though.

Hi, all - subbed a while back, but not very active. Cool site!

Dingwalls are way cool, and the fanned fret thing is not hard to get used to. I go back and forth between my Dingwall and other non-fanned fret basses all the time.

Here's my older Prima (bought used):

Played this morning - awesome tone and playability.
