In case you havent heard, the Vox AC15 is being reissued. Only $899 if you want it loaded with a Celestion blue.

Awesome! I thoroughly enjoy the Vox tone! But, I just bought a Galaxie 10.

Palomino V32 is all the Class A I can afford for now... ;)

I keep hearing good things about those Palominos... just the Crate tube amps in general. I've heard some good things about the V30 head as well.

Yeah, anyone know anything about the V30? Sure looks nice in the Christmas catalogue.

I only know what I've read on HC. Sounds fairly AC30-esque to me. I'd like ot hear one.

I had a V30 Combo (AKA 3112).
Great amp!
Sounds more like a couple EL-34's than the 4 X EL-84's it has (Class "A" no less).
Short pan reverb, but a little is ok.
A friend has a AC15 Vox from the last run they did a few years back.
It's a GREAT amp!
I had given up on finding one, but with reverb now too? I'm in the hunt!

Vox amps are too expensive for me but I'd dig to have anything close to one. What Crates compare to an AC15 or AC30? Are the Crate tone controls voiced like a Vox?
According to HC, the Crates are made in the USA.
(That sound you hear is expanding GAS.)

My V30 sounded more Fender Tweed than Vox.
The V15 is close to an Ampeg J-12t, which is Voxish sounding, but more open vs compressed sounding.
The Crates seem to like blending in some Tweed sound, though it was understated in the V30 I had, which had a ToneTubby hemp speaker cone.
Actually, the best Vox sound I've had lately was with the made in Korea Valvetronix line set on the AC30topkick setting.
More authentic Vox sounding than the Crates, by far.

You can get a GREAT amp here in Memphis made by a guy named "Hinson." Seriously, for $600 you can get a class a amp that absolutely kills.... very much like a vox, or if driven, like a bad cat. Some of the best players in town have bought one lately, and my engineer buddy over at Aztec got one as well.

Is that Dave Hinson?
I see he has a guitar store but the other references point to Headstrong Amps.

The V30 and V32 are the same amp with the exception being the speaker and the obvious cosmetics.
I have all 3 of the Palomino series and really like the tonality of the V32 and V16. These are not actually made by Crate which is a good thing. St. Louis Music (Ampeg) actually makes the amps. I know they aren't a Vox clone per se but they have that Vox chime to them. I have been using the V16 fo rehearsals and the V32 for gigs lately. That is saying a lot if you know my arsenal of amps.

Ah I did not know the speaker was different - nor the builder... that's a GOOD thing...
What is the speaker difference?

Thanks for the info. That is saying a lot if you are using the V32 for gigs. Does the amp work well with humbuckers? What is the V32's output impedance? Is it selectable?

It runs at 8 ohms fixed which is kind of a bummer but it is what it is. I stuck an Eminence Tonker in my V32 and a Red Fang in my V16. The other cool feature in the V32 is a footswitchable mid boost. It works great for a lead boost. I can't speak highly enough about this amp series. Heck the V8 is the best practice amp I have ever played through.
edit: It works great with Humbuckers
