I'm working on a few cartoon sketches for a client. This will be for T-Shirts, Printed materials, online stuff, etc.

One of the sketches that I think has a lot of potential (and would like your feedback on) is:

What do you think? Stupid? Cool? Fun? This is an early sketch at this point and it will go through several versions... I'm lookin' for impressions and ideas to make it better (obviously my client is giving me feedback as well).

The product is called a "Boomerang" (http://www.boomerangmusic.com). Very cool sampling/looping product. Maybe look it up.

I'm all ears.

WOW! I've seen Mike Nelson playing the Boomerang. I had no idea that it was his product!! Very Cool. Mike is an awesome guitarist. I would love to learn some of his techniques and licks.

Toon:

Hmm, a "V" with a "Dean" headstock - any trademark issues? (maybe not since the ad is for an unrelated product) The term "Rangin'" escaped me at first until I caught onto the product name. The device on the floor might need a little more detail to represent the emphasis of the product. VERY cool character - LOVE it! Can you make his ears bigger to look a little more like a kangeroo? Would a kangeroo have more of a buck-tooth look?

I never realized that you were such a good artist TOO! Good job "Joey"!

Thanks for the input.

I hadn't decided on the ears (I did have him bucktoothed at first, may go back to it) - i will try it and see how it looks.

Another friend suggested I arch his head back more and arch the guitar neck a bit - to simulate doing some sort of lead kinda thing. I'll try that as well. No names on the V so I don't think there's an issue for now.

As to the boomerang pedalboard: I will add the Boomerang logo (cartoony) after the client decides what he wants. The logo will be styled similar to what's on his site. I didn't wanna get too detailed just yet. The main logo will also be on the graphic (probably above it).

My, time goes by so fast... I've been drawin' and doing toons since 5th grade. So let me do some math... um... I guess that would be about 25 years now. I don't really draw freestyle very often anymore because there are so many other things going on. I do love it though.

Ya, Mike is a good player too. Only saw him one time - but it was a good little show. His 'Rang is sold all over the world now. Cool 8) I did his site and have done a lot of stuff for him over the last few years. Good guy.

Thanks bud.

Perhaps the buck-tooth is not characteristic. I like the fact that Rangaroo has his mouth open like he is singing.

Kangaroo Jack looked fairly real, but you don't need to copy him, perhaps just get some ideas: http://kangaroojack.warnerbros.com/

just an idea,

Maybe add a crocodile dundee hat on that 'joey', maybe let his ears pop thru the top of the hat, and maybe put on either his jacket, or on the guitar headstock, "Crickey!"

Dont know if that helps, or muddies the waters.

But it do look real good!

Okay - here's the latest version. I made lots of changes and brought it together with some Boomerang logos and other elements...

I sent this to my client - I'm hoping he will approve this version. I will redraw it with CorelDRAW if he does - that will clean it up even more and make it very sharp.

What do ya think?
